Help with import/export please

I'm trying to build an argument-solver for the Mark Belanger Opus ... a league with identical teams except for the shortstop.

I think the quickest way is to edit the data in Excel, but after putzing around with it for an hour and a half this morning, I need a step-by-step from somebody, or a suggestion on what I did wrong:

1) Build a 1974 Historical League. Check
2) Turn all the starting SS into free agents. Check
3) Export .txt file(s). (Just roster, or the player files too?) Check
4) Open .txt file(s) in Excel. Check
5) Kill out all the players from all the teams except the Philadelphia Phillies. Check
6) Copy the Phillies' players enough times to replace each of the teams Check
7) In the player's data, change the Team ID number for the clones to match those of every team (Do I also need to change the Organization ID number?)
8) Use the "Save as" function in Excel to replace the original .txt files in the Import/Export queue (My version of Excel offers two choices for saving .txt files, Unicode and delimited ... which is correct?)
9) Import the file into OOTPX (do I need to clear the rosters first, or will the import overwrite them?)
10) In Commissioner mode, assign the shortstops back to their original teams.

Everything seems to work (ie, no error messages), but when I reimport, I get empty rosters ... even for the Phillies, whose data is unchanged.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The trick you are missing probably is the txt files are actually csv files with a txt extension. You need to go to the command prompt and rename the file from filename.csv to filename.txt. If you change the name from windows explorer it is real easy to wind up with filename.txt.csv which is not an optimal scenario.

I have tried everything I can think of, including using both Notepad and Wordpad as straight .txt editors ... everything returns blank rosters ...
including exporting, changing nothing and re-importing ...
Does it matter who controls the teams?

The .csv tip helped after a couple of tries.

All the players came back ... to the reserve rosters.

I'll just move them to the active roster using this handy "Select all" function ... ooops.

Excuse me guys, this is gonna take a while ...

In the interim I will note that where on the Export button it says you can easily alter the data and re-import it, it's not 100% true ...
