How is X doing in Windows 7?
Many people have reported problems with OOTP and Vista.
I (thank the Lord) stayed with XP and never migrated to Vista. I do hope to buy a new PC with Windows 7 sometime soon. What are people experiencing with OOTP X and Windows 7? Last edited by kcroyalgm; 06-08-2009 at 11:44 PM. |

I've had no problems with Vista or XP. I did have a problem with IE8 running on XP because of some firewall and security settings on my work computer... but that was Microsoft's fault, not OOTPX. I just rolled back to IE7 and it runs great.

I found OOTP9 to be more stable in Vista than XP.
I've had zero problems playing OOTPX with Vista. Glad to hear it's working in Windows7 - I can't wait to upgrade. |

Positive answers.
Thanks to all. I wonder if people having Vista problems are people who upgraded from XP to Vista rather than people with PCs bought with Vista installed. I have always found it very problematic to upgrade from one OS to another (despite what the vendor, Microsoft in this case, says). When I go to Windows7 if will be on a new computer with that OS installed on it.

I was also on the beta team and tested it on 7 with no problems at all.

Personally the only problem I ever noticed with Vista was it's heavy resource use. 7 seems to fix most of those issues, and both 9 and 10 run great in the release candidate.
Also, I can say that it works flawlessly on over 10 different Linux distros as well.

It's interesting to hear the comments on 7 as I'm trying to find good opinions on it and the technical community doesn't seem to impressed by it. Most people here seem to love it though so I guess that's good news. I've grown unbelievably discouraged with Vista as I have a moderately powered machine that gets absolutely swallowed by the immense resources that the system takes up-sometimes for no apparent reason.
At any rate, Microsoft really needs 7 to be well received or it could spell the end of its dominance, which I'm sure most of us who have been using windows software for 15 years would hate. |
