Is there anyway to start a 2009 season earlier?

It always puts me at 4/15 and I want more time to do some trading, set up my personnel, etc. I tried creating a league through the league creation thing. While it starts you off at 1/1 (which is nice), it only allows you to have fictional players and fictional personnel no matter how I try to create the league.

No, the 2009 quickstart purposely puts you right near Opening Day so the rosters are current. You don't get to choose the start date.
