Dilemma, need some input
I manage the New York Gemstones in one of my fictional leagues. We had a third baseman on the 60 day DL, and I, like an idiot, completely forgot we had him, and signed a 3B in free agency, and now I don't know which one to keep or what to do with the other. the guy who was on the DL is a 6 in contact (I love contact hitters; I use 1-10 ratings) and a 6 rating at third base, he's a 3 star player (i have scouting off). The other guy is only a 5 in contact, and isn't higher than a 5 in any rating, but is a 10 when it comes to fielding third base. He's a great fielder at other positions, but those positions are filled, and he's a 3.5 star player. Both players are in their late 20's. So, to you experienced OOTPers out there, what would you do?

Stats please - how are they doing at the plate?
I like contact hitters too, but I love a solid defense.

well, both are making about 5 mil, and my lineup is stacked, i guess i gotta suck it up and use the FA signee as a 5 million dollar utility guy, he's a 10 fielder at every infield position, so he's gonna be a good player to have in there, but his batting average shouldnt bee any higher than .275

What is his Avg? What was the injured players Avg when he went down? Outstanding defense is well worth the sacrifice of ten or 20 percentage points in BA, depending how the rest of the team is hitting.

Might want to consider some other things, as well. Like Power and Eye?

There may be a twenty-five point difference in average, but it's only a sixteen point difference in OPS. If that's what you can fairly expect (neither of them was having an abnormally good or bad year at the dish), I'd go with the free-agent defense guy.
