Outfield Assists: Are they all Ichiro out there or is it just me?
I skimmed the first couple of pages to see if anyone had started a thread about this but I didn't see anything. If anyone has, please let me know.
Has anyone else noticed an inordinate amount of OF assists while playing out games? I tracked the OF assists (both teams combined) for my last fifteen games and here's what I've seen: 6/30: 2 6/28: 2 6/27: 2 6/26: 0 6/25: 1 6/24: 1 6/23: 1 6/21: 3 6/20: 1 6/19: 0 6/18: 0 6/17: 1 6/16: 1 6/15: 0 6/14: 1 The league totals, for the record, seem a bit high but not THAT high, but I'm just seeing tons and tons of OF assists all over the place in my games. As you can see, in that 15 game period there was at least one OF assist in 11 out of the 15 games and multiple OF assists in 4 out of 15. And that's not an isolated 15 game period. The whole reason that I tracked it for fifteen games is because I've been seeing them all season long. I tried making my baserunning tendencies a bit more conservative but that doesn't seem to have helped (and I don't want to make them TOO conservative because I fear that that will stop my guys from scoring easy runs.) It's just frustrating seeing guy after guy gunned out at home or at third when you only see that semi-regularly at best watching real baseball. So, is anyone else seeing this? If so, does anyone have a work-around to make it less common? Is this a known issue? |

By the way, just as a follow-up. Taking that 15 game period as an indicator, the total number of OF assists in my 162 games should be approximately 140, which means around 70 for me and around 70 for my opponents. The most OF assists for an MLB team in 2008 was 36.

It's a feature, not a bug.
![]() Complete a season and check OF assist #s for all your teams and compare them to what you see in real life MLB stats. I think you'll see they come out pretty close (how close depends on the new LTM for OF assists). In OOTP9, OF assists were way too low. Another thing people are going to see more of is fly-out and line-out DPs. |

I should have added that these changes mean that the baserunning slider in the team strategy page is even more important than it was before. It is always active, even when you are calling your own plays in game. Small changes to this slider also can have a fairly big impact on how aggressive your runners are. I've come to the conclusion that most gamers should consider knocking this slider down a notch, or even two (certainly no higher than the middle) until they get used to these changes. Then they will be better able to gauge how risky they want to be with this.

I can second this. There were only three outfield assists in 29 games I played out, one by our team and two against us.
