Which type of Scouting Director do you use?
Just curious as to which type of scouting director you prefer in your games, ability or tools? And why? Just curious to see what differences you notice between the two types.
I usually use tools guys or neutral, but this current dynasty I hired an ability guy and so far do not like the results. |

Ability. Because I'm the one that argued it should be part of the scouting model
![]() Seriously, because I'd prefer my scout to tell me what he thinks a player will do based on what he's doing now (something concrete) rather than what will take lucky talent bumps to get to.

Tools. I like to draft player's basen on their upsides. Not a lot of guys pan out, but if only a couple do a draft then it is worth it. Also, tools guys will rate more guys high in a draft class, meaning that I can find somebody that I'm ok with drafting in the later rounds. The chances of these guys panning out are slim but it happens occasionally and it's fun to draft projects rather than guys you know are going to stink.

Tools, but not too extreme. I can judge a players ability by looking at his stats. Plus I run a small market team, I have to keep the pipeline filled with prospects. If they don't pan out that's fine.
