AI Handling of Rosters

This has started to bug me. In my solo league with scouting off, the Cardinals tried to pass a 28 yr old SP making league minim through waivers with a 65 OVR and he was a combined 16-9 over the past 2 seasons with a 2.70 ERA. This team is in the heat of a pennant race and has 3 20 OVR SP in their rotation right now. If I wasn't playing house rules, I could've grabbed that guy off waivers and dealt one of my higher priced guys.

Maybe he disgraced himself so they released him to make a point :P

Maybe he was late everyday and the manager got sick of it and released him to set an example to the ball club

Maybe they had a trade in the works and they needed him to pass through waivers for it to go through.

Maybe he was about to be named in the OOTP X Mitchell Report...

Have you seen how poorly the Cardinals have been managing their roster in real life? They lost a hard throwing relief prospect (Luis Perdomo), that they acquired for trading Dave Duncan's arch nemesis Anthony Reyes, in the Rule 5 draft because they just didn't protect him. Then they trade an OF with major league experience (Brian Barton) for a DFA'd pitcher (Blaine Boyer), spend a significant amount of time working with him to improve his effectiveness and then lose him on waivers to call up a minior league pitcher (Jess Todd the Destroyer) for 1 day. These are just the minor moves that they have been making that make you scratch your head.

I think the game is matching real life very closely.

This was in July, or I would have agreed with you. They sent him down to AAA after he cleared waivers.

That's funny because Jess Todd was the pitcher who I'm bitching about! rofl. This is in 2014 of course after Todd developed into a solid #2-3 pitcher.

Maybe he got hammered and slugged Tony La Russa. I wonder what the scouting level of said Cardinal team is though. That could be a factor. When you use scouts all kinds of interesting things can happen. 65s can look like 20s and vice-versa.

Like I said earlier, scouting is off because I always dominate too easily with scouting on (I grab best scout and throw $10,000,000 into scouting).

I removed the cash limit, and the results are amusing. Yankees lose millions and are forced to slash payroll down to $70m for a few years. Orioles rake in the dough while they're rebuilding and have plenty of money to spend once Wieters and company have matured.
