Injuries?
Overall, I'm very pleased with OOTP10, but I do have a few quibbles. The biggest one is with the method of determining injuries. I am playing a game with injuries set to "high", which is supposed to be a realistic modern-day injury rate. I did this because I want to simulate the modern-day major leagues. However, it appears to me that this results in way too many injuries. In the four seasons I have completed so far, when it comes time for the June draft, I have had a minimum of a dozen players on the major-league disabled list. At least half of them have long-term injuries of a month or greater. This does not seem realistic. Here is the distribution of players on the current, real-life MLB disabled list. Two teams have two players on the DL, four teams have three, four teams have four, three teams have five, eight teams have six, two teams have seven, four teams have eight, three teams have nine.
The maximum number of players on the real-life, MLB disabled list is nine. That's at least three less than I've experienced in each of my four seasons at this approximate point in the season. My complaint isn't that there are too many injuries. If it was, I'd just reduce the injury rating. However, I do expect an injury setting that's supposed to reflect realistic modern-day rates of injury to do just that. I don't want to end on a negative note though, so let me say it again. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the game. Kudos to the developers! |

I'm thinking this might get tweaked in the upcoming patch.
If it isn't, I believe injury durations can be edited in the injury.txt file. I'm holding off on doing this until we see if Markus makes any adjustments in the patch. |

My sentiments exactly I have to admit I can't play above low settings because of too many Career enders and season enders. I think the long term injuries have to be cut by 50 per cent easily....

I have been playing with the settings at low and I am pretty happy with the results.

I'm going to suggest what I suggested in another current injury thread: According to Injury Log the only real problem is that long term (3+ month) injuries should break down 3:1 pitchers:hitters, but instead they're 1:1.
A possible solution would be to keep a six-sided die next to your computer. Every time a position player (on any team, not just yours) receives a 3+ month injury, roll the die. On a 1-2 the injury stands; on 3-6 change the 'months' to 'weeks' in the editor. (CEIs become 500 day injuries). There's other stuff about how to keep the injuries balanced, but that's the short form.

Comedian, I've started a game with injury rate set to low, but it's not terribly realistic. The injury rates don't mirror the real world. I had five guys one the major-league DL for a few weeks, but never more than that. Most of the time I've had one to three on the DL. That's way low in the real world.
