Salary Arbitration/Extension Question
Ive got a pitcher who missed most of last season but spent the year before and the beginning of that season as our closer, and was very good. He has decent endurance and I decided to use him as a starter, even if he cant throw much more than 90 pitches. Its been a good year so far. We gave him 6 mil in arbitration this season and I went to see if I could lock him up. He was signed to a 3 year deal worth 550,000 and through incentives it could bring his salary to just under 1.5 mil per season. Now I look at his contract screen and it shows the extension but it also says he is eligible for arbitration and possibly free agency. It also says the arbitration estimate is 5.4 mil. Does he get the extension I gave him or will he go through arbitration and get something closer to 5.4?
