Trading: Money and Injuries

Why am I required to make another team be completely "in the black" in order to complete a trade? Most teams in my fictional league run payroll deficits (in the red). When trading with them I cannot complete a trade if they are still in the red after the proposed deal.

My trade offer can IMPROVE their deficits (meaning my offered salaries are lower than the salaries I would accept or I offer cash) and still the trade will not go through until they are FULLY positive to payroll. I'm required to make them wholly good, not just improve their situation.

I can see not being able to trade if I increase their deficits further; but if I'm improving them I don't get it.

This is not a future years issue either; it comes into play even when trading only players with one year contracts. This makes trading, one of the more fun engagements in the game, frustrating. I allow the owner to control budget because that's more challenging and, in my opinion, realistic.

Another albeit more minor annoyance is not being able to accept trades for injured players. I can see where the AI would need to protect itself by not getting injured players dumped on it by me, but as the human in the trade I should be able to accept an injured player. Often there are times when I want to trade for a player around the July 31st deadline but he's on the 15 day disabled list. He'll be better soon enough to suit me but he's effectively unavailable.

Read this: 27 of 30 teams have negative balance
Page 4 should have an updated financial.txt file

As for the injury problem, set the injuries setting lower and you should see less of this.

This has been complained about at least since the release of 2007. I was hoping it had been corrected for Version 10. *sigh*
