Trading too Easy/Hard

Am I the first person to complain about this?

I'm looking for a 5th starter. I'm currently looking at decent youngish pitchers with some upside but I'm not trying to splurge on a stud.. so 1-2 star guys with the potential for 2-3 stars and decent present ability.

While this kind of player is no great shakes he is also a fairly valuable commodity. When the trade difficulty is set to hard it seems that I have to be willing to give up Jason Hayward or Brian McCann or Jair Jurrjens (im playing as the Braves) to get even a backup catcher, much less a 5th starter.
With trade difficulty set to Normal I can throw in 3 1-star 27yo AAA bullpen guys and get a 4th/5th starter really easy.

This seems really out of balance, there is no in-between "normal" and "hard"

You could try setting it to 'hard', then adjusting the preferences to more heavily favor prospects. That way the AI will think more highly of your young players (up to age 25, I believe) and give you more in return for them, but not as much more as it would on 'normal'. Alternatively, if you're trying to find a young starter, set the preference to favor established players. It might work, but I'm not promising anything.

I was set the trade settings to hard, favor young prospects trades very low to make it more fair as Curtis has mentioned.

Did you try for different pitchers of the same ilk? Because maybe the team you were dealing with didn't want to part with the player you were after.Another roadblock sometimes is scouting. If you have scouting turned on,then their scout may value the player more than your scout does, making it more difficult as well.I did a lot of testing in beta on the "hard" setting and found it overall to work well.I would suggest shopping around for a few pitchers on different teams and offering a few different deals, then hopefully you'll get that elusive arm BTW,as a side note,in my league now(2009 MLB) the Reds were able to getl Matt Garza from the Rays for Jerry Hairston Jr. and 1.75 million dollars and thats with settings on very low,hard/favor prospects.

I concur with the general sentiment that the distinction between Normal (too easy) and Hard (unrealistically hard) is too great. I want a setting that's about a third more difficult than Normal, rather than seemingly twice as difficult.

I've actually lowered my difficulty from hard to normal in X because I just wasn't able to get anything worthwhile for some very valuable guys. Fortunately, on the normal setting I now seem to be getting completely reasonable offers, as opposed to the AI offering practically every played they had in return for a good player. I've also found its much harder to overload the trade with mid-level prospects in return from the AI. I'll have to do more playing to really see what the difference is but for now normal difficulty seems to be just fine.

After some more playing, I do have to agree that the disparity between hard and average is much too great. While I was experiencing better results on average, it is still way too easy to get extremely bad deals (for the ai). I found myself saying that I couldn't accept a trade because it just didn't make sense for the computer.

But I don't like that hard seems to be much harder than it used to be, so much so that it is almost impossible to get reasonable deals even when trading multiple five star players. It used to be that I could end up giving perhaps slightly more talent than the computer, but getting the pieces that I need in return. I'm bumping this old thread because I think this is one issue that is really hampering my enjoyment of the game at the moment, while everything else is great.

Can someone explain how the trading AI was tweaked for OOTP10? Seems like the same-same as in too easy or too hard-as OOTP 9.

I also agree with the original post.

Normal is too easy and leveling up is too hard.

Something in between would be perfect.

One aspect that may have some effect is the re-tooling of the evaluation method by the AI. Not only used in the evaluation ratio, but increasing the value of pitchers, while trying to decrease the over-valued nature of MRs. This isn't an official word, by any means. Just my own perceptions of the changes.

On the other note, I'm in complete agreement. The balance between Hard and Normal is a tough one. I'd like to see a Normal and 1/2. Would that be Almost Hard?
