Bold Lineup Entries?

In the Managed Game Options & Preview screen some of the entries for the Away/Home column are bolded. What is the significance of this?

I'll assume you mean the comparison screen where the bolded areas are ones in which the team exceeds the performance of the competitor.

No, not that screen, where it compares team batting averages, etc. I'm talking about the Options screen where you see the visiting team's lineup at the top and the home team's lineup at the bottom. It shows the stats for each player along with a column of Away data for the visitors, Home for the home team, as well as the data against the current opposing pitcher. For some players the values in the Away/Home column and the Opp. Pitcher column are bolded, but I can't quite figure out the logic behind which ones are bolded.

When it is the values bolded, my guess has always been that the player has been hot or cold. Never put a lot of thought into it really.

I was thinking that it might be a comparison between the position of the player on the diamond, or the spot in the lineup, with the better in bold, just like on the team comparison page. I just haven't been able to see the trend yet.

Well, been quite a while since I've actually looked at that page. But now you have me curious. I didn't find it referenced in the manual, so if you don't get a definitive answer in the next couple of days I'll make an effort mid-week to get a look and offer up and opinion. Good question, W. Always something to learn, isn't there?

Hmmm... Now here's a kicker for me. Went to look at this for myself and I can't get it to show up anywhere in a game. Even tried Act As option. Anybody know the trick that I seem to be missing? And you think it's going to be easy.....

Did you try the good old Manage page?

hehe..I can get to the screen. I just can't get any of them to show me any bolded items in the lineups. No matter which games I look at, they're all the same. No bolds.

Odd. Are you in the first game of the season? Are you the Manager of the team?

It always seemed to me, like Kelric mentioned, that the bolded players were players who had noteworthy performances lately, either on a hot or cold streak. Kinda like at the start of an TV broadcast when they show the lineups on screen and there's always a player who's singled out for special attention (picture, extra stats, etc.)

I am there now and I see the two lead-off batters bolded.

I'm Acting As. You're probably right, I need to get officially hired and then see what happens.

I believe the names of the two lead off batters are always bolded for some reason. The columns I'm referring to are to the right, the Home/Away and vs. Pitcher.

If you return to that screen during the game (can you? I don't recall) does it have the next two batters due up bolded? I'm wondering if that's just a pseudo-on-deck designation.

I always took the bold to mean that the selected player was either very good or very bad against the opposing pitcher.

In my case, a new league, most of them are .000 against the pitcher. I'm convinced it has to do with some kind of comparison but I still can't figure it out. You know, like a lineup vs. lineup type of thing. The only problem is that in some cases neither side has a bold entry, and the only thing I've been able to see in those cases is that both have either very low batting averages or no batting average. Maybe there is a minimum threshold to be considered the better of the two choices. Someone in the know must have this information.
