My experience with games I play are realistic injuries tend to turn people off as they just aren't aware of how many there are IRL (IIRC in Front Office Football the scale is 1-200 with 100 being default and 200 being realistic and a lot of players don't use 200). Then throw in random chance and your team is hit hard and the complaints come in.
FWIW injuries are mentioned in the patch fix list.. 3165 - Batters should return faster than pitchers from serious arm injuries 2910 - Long Injuries Affect Too Many Batters, Not Enough Pitchers I respect what Matter2003 is trying to do but I think I'll stick with injurylog's file. Being a beta and on the inside as the game was being developed IMHO gives him a better understanding of how things should work. Been waiting on the patch to see if this was addressed and will now get back into my game. The great thing though about OOTP is that it is so modable so with a little effort we can all have it the way we want it. |

In any case, I am still working on the file, so this is not in any way a completed project. Yes, there may be some frequency issues until this is complete because of the large amount of additions to the file. The frequency edits I did last night helped a lot in this area, but I still want to finish the file before really adjusting this area...I guess you could say this is still in the beta stages, but IMHO it is still an improvement on the default file... |

allright, I really worked on balancing the file and also added many ilnesses that were missing. Of course, I made sure these were illnesses that actually occured with baseball players over the past few years....god forbid something that could actually happen to a person at that age, but as of yet hasn't happened to a baseball player make it into the file(except swine flu---don't freak out please anyone). Oh, I also added Lou Gehrig's disease. I figured if they actually named the disease after a baseball player then it probably was OK...here is a sample of what was added:
Valley Fever Pneumonia anxiety disorder surgery to replace aoritc valve surgery to repair enlarged heart staph infection surgery to repair an inner ear disorder surgery to treat thyroid cancer tonsilectomy testicular cancer swine flu diabetes severe allergic reaction eye cancer irregular heartbeat surgery to remove kidney blockage viral meningitis channelopathy mitochondrial disease colon cancer surgery to repair a heart arrythmia depression non-Hodgkin's lymphoma blood clot in lung intestinal bleeding mono Morgellon's disease acute terminal ileitis need to test things out to make sure its balanced enough before I release the next version... |

Allright I am submitting some numbers for review:
I am running on very high injuries, which produce slightly more than there should be(50-150), but to me its better than high, which does not produce enough(by almost 300 injuries). Here is my breakdown of injury lengths: 1 day: 95 2 days: 96 3 days: 112 4 days: 126 5 days: 99 6 days: 85 7 days: 167 Total injuries 7 days or less: 780 Day-to-day injuries: 557 1-2 weeks: 66 2 weeks: 142 2-3 weeks: 43 3 weeks: 95 3-4 weeks: 36 4 weeks: 77 4-5 weeks: 6 5 weeks: 45 5-6 weeks: 14 6 weeks: 56 6-7 weeks: 10 7 weeks: 10 8 weeks: 9 Total: 614 2 months: 17 2-3 months: 15 3 months: 42 3-4 months: 16 4 months: 25 4-5 months: 12 5 months: 9 5-6 months: 3 6 months: 5 6-7 months: 3 7 months: 3 7-8 months: 4 8 months: 11 8-9 months: 1 9 months: 7 9-10 months: 1 10 months: 3 10-11 months: 3 11 months: 5 11-12 months: 1 12 months: 4 13 months: 4 13-14 months: 1 DTD%: 37.2 Day/Days/Week injuries %: 52.1 Weeks %: 41.3 Months %: 12.4 |

to the phillie handle, my question exactly. I have read every post in this thread and am still confused (not rare for me). I know this has been discussed ad nauseum (sp?)
I love this game and it seems like if a few things were tweaked, i would literally contribute money. These programmers have truly added joy to my life. The injury frequency is great. I like challenge. I have never encountered the career-ending difficulties others have. My problem is that there seems to be 2-3 *SEASON* ending injuries in the first couple months every team I start. My lone question to the realism is the frequency of season-ending injuries. Does this patch fix this? Are OOTP programmers coming out with a patch to fix this? Thank you all! |

Thanks for all you are doing, man. I just want to get to a place where the injuries my team experiences are similar to a major league team.. easier said than done. Your work is impressive. |

thanks for the kind words. I believe the new patch reduces long term injuries somewhat and also much better balances hitter/pitcher injuries. At any given time, when I have done an under the knife check in previous versions, there were always many more hitters on there than pitchers. Now it is about 50/50 if not slightly more pitchers, which is good to see. Just finished re-balancing the file and adding more injuries/illnesses so I will see how the testing goes tonite....

Good luck. Yeah, I thought frequency was pretty realistic, just not the number of season-ending injuries. Thanks again. Please let me know if you have any input on my post in this thread (2nd page): http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ble-now-2.html |

OK...well, I have worked on rebalancing the file as well as adding more injuries/illnesses. I am pretty satisfied with how the file turned out from the tests I have done. If anyone has any issues or problems or notices something out of the norm, please let me know so I can go back and take a look at it.
You can download the new injury file on the first page, where the other files were located. |

Thank you, Matter.
Your next assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to correct the miscalculated financials in fictional historic leagues. The foreign and unaffiliated leagues soon have millions more dollars than the human players league. This post will self destruct in 10 seconds.

Uh were exactly do i put the file before I re import the injury database?
Also, if I put it into an already existing league will it Cancel out already existing injuries? (and will it work just as if it was a new league?) Last edited by DUBBOH11; 06-22-2009 at 08:02 PM. |

Zero likelihood. Among other things, it eliminated CEIs (upon initial diagnosis). Markus will never go for that.
