UPDATE 6/21/09:
this contains a major update to the injury file to address balancing issues and also the addition of many new illnesses/injuries. I am pretty pleased by the outcome, but of course everyone's opinion will vary. Personally I recommend to play on very high injuries to get the proper number of injuries(with this file it is currently between 1300-1400, which is quite realistic compared to injury log's study that came up with 1353). The high(modern realistic setting) only produces around 1000-1100 injuries, which is still too low. However, use whatever setting you feel comfortable with. Please let me know if anything seems out of whack, I will work on any further fixes/rebalancing issues over the next few days. I actually am going to play the game now... To install, simply go into the game setup screen and re-import the injury database... Last edited by Matter2003; 06-21-2009 at 11:01 PM. |

I'm looking forward to the completed version of this.

Does the career ending set back thing work if the injury isn'tcareer ending? I like the idea of doing that, but I'm guessing there has to be a possibility of the injury being career ending for that to happen. Markus or someone else is free to prove me wrong though

One of the suggestions made for CEIs in Version 9 was to change them to 500 day injuries. This seems reasonable to me. A player could easily be out for the rest of one season and all of the next, and he would have a long time (and considerable severity) with which to suffer setbacks.

In fact there needs to be some tweaking to this setback-retirement system, because although it is great to have it, the player I referenced above was a 26 year old LF stud who was batting .323 in 137 games that year, was to be a free agent after the season, and the setback was only 2 weeks. With his whole career in front of him, and a huge payday on the line, there is no way this player would have decided that 2 more weeks of rehab weren't worth it and to retire instead... This type of thing should happen to players who are out with serious injuries and/or are past their prime so they realize rehabbing that long might not be worth it to them... |

I am sure it has happened many times over the course of all the MLB seasons...I really don't see any chance it is a bug as there really is no way to determine an "appropriate" timetable for each injury to occur, as the events leading up the injuries are in no way inter-related. None of the injuries have any relation to the other injuries, and just like IRL, you could have 3 people injured in the same game and then noone injured again for a month or more...

Im playing with your corrected injury file and playing on normal. Through the first 16 days of the season I lost my #2 starter in his first start for 8 weeks and a minor leaguer for a month. And with appropriate injuries and injury duration. I might go to modern day if things keep going this well.

Some interesting results in a test league I am running. I initially ran with injuries on high and determined there were not enough injuries(there were roughly 1100 or so with illnesses included, still short of the 1350 or so injury log determined is about normal during the season from opening day to the last day of the year.) I reran with injuries on very high and liked what I saw(other than pitchers not being injured enough)
First of all the injury type breakdown: While Pitching: 411(31.8%) Running the Bases: 289(22.4%) Defensive Play: 159(12.3%) Collision: 134(10.4%) While Throwing: 106(8.2%) Hit by Pitch: 100(7.7%) Illness: 83(6.4%) Other: 9(0.7%) Total: 1291 Setbacks: 94 Now the duration of the injuries: DTD: 452 Day or Days: 541(a lot of these were DTD also) Week or Weeks: 632 Months: 190 Notice the pitching injuries are still very light in comparison to the overall total...also appear to be too many weekly injuries and not enough day injuries Last edited by Matter2003; 06-16-2009 at 02:38 AM. |
