Too many players in the minors?

Hi all-

I'm 4 years into my Rockies franchise and I'm finding that, with a 20-round draft, my rosters are OVERFILLED. Like, my rookie team has 54 players on it and my other affiliates have 25 (except for short season A where I have 35). And I'm about to draft again.

How do you all avoid this, work round this, or manage it? Do you just deal with it and assume the correct players get playing time?

As in real life, you have to release them (i.e., send them off to find new careers for themselves). One of the problems is that they will end up clogging the free agency lists. Don't know that anyone has found a convenient solution for that, so I'll stop there to see if others can give you additional advice.

set the roster limit of your lowest level of minors to no lower than 35 and preferably 50. In manager options give the AI minor managers control over signing and releasing minor league players, unless you like to micromanage. That should solve things. I personally like all the FA's. It makes finding filler players easy and there is always the chance that one of em, especially with high work ethic and intelligence, might make it one day.

Really what needs to happen is that players with 20 -21 ratings need to retire faster when they are not signed to a team. If a real life player washes out of single A ball at 23 they don't show up on anyone free agent list a year later. I think at the conclusion of the major leage regular season players who are healthy and haven't been on a team all season need to retire.
