Talent Changes
I am still quite a rookie to all this and am learning much from the forums, but there is one aspect of ootp 9 that really takes a lot of the fun out. It seems that no veteran can consistantly sustain a succesful career. Most peter out by late 20's and remain unsigned due to the current poor ratings that just dropped on them.
Is version 10 much different than 9 as far as frequency of talant drops occur? This old thread from 07 said it best and it was still true for OOTP 9. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...t-changes.html I often see my five star potential players turn to one star in no time at all. Often after I sign them to long contracts once they hit arbitration elgible. Definitely after every injury. Probably because I often bring minor prospects up immediately if it reads "possibly ready"? Although it may be realistic in an early career I have seen more than my share of established veterans just hitting the wall and dropping 100 average points the next season over a one month injury, or an ERA shooting up by 2.00 points for the same reason. Usually several per team per year. Has anyone noticed a difference in this between v9 and v10? If so I would invest in 10. PS- My settings are scouting on, recalc set for 3 years, does not recalc yearly based on real life stats. Last edited by Rico Petrocelli; 06-17-2009 at 10:30 PM. Reason: Edited to add my recalc settings |

What other way would you suggest for 1st round draft picks who never amount to anything in the major leagues? At some point the scouts are going to realize he isn't as good as they thought and keep downgrading him...

That aspect is useful of the blown first round prospects, but does this happen with the frequency we see with established veterans? Dice-K and Big Papi are two that are seeing this in the MLB and it is making big news. Imagine if this was happening to sixty other cases league wide. I can understand a few first rounders not amounting. But I am seeing this mostly while on the MLB roster and not so much in the minor system.

I have it set to 60% after i created a guy in my fictional league who went from a 5 star prospect to a 2 star prospect in 1 season, then i made him back to a 5 star prospect, then he went to a 1.5 star prospect in half a season. at 60% its fine and guys dont start decline until theyre in their mid30's, but i also have it set to .850 for hitter and pitcher decline speed

Also I tend to alter the AI's evaluation so yearly stats are looked at a bit more than just the ratings. don't know if that affects anything but I've had 1/2 rated players play well in the majors regardless what their ratings are.

Petrocelli,
Welcome to the forum. I believe I know your username from the Boglehead forum. As others have suggested, the RonCo settings work well in OOTP9. So far in 10, I am using the default ratings and just trying to be wary of my scout's ratings. When scouting young guys that haven't played much in the majors, I compare my scouts ratings to OSA. Also, on a 1-20 scale, if one of the ratings for a player is 26 (off the charts maximum), then I know that my scout is probably overrating him. Those are my tricks for avoiding talent busts. |

Just a little heads up,OOTP X has a much better development system than OOTP 9 did,I found that the default player development settings work just fine in X,no need to change anything.

honestly, I'd agree the default settings are pretty good in and of themselves this time around though. RonCo's still work well for OOTPX too though.
