International Scouting

Hey Gang,

Anyone else notice that your scouts are not digging up anything Internationally? I have the top scout in the game (98s across the board) and have assigned 2.8m out of my 4.5m budget to International Scouting, but have come up dry.

Are you using the MLB rosters included with ootpX? If so that is your problem. Hidden players apparently never show up in the MLB quickstart.

Its not so much the 'hidden' players that should already be there. But, it is on running future seasons and my scout is not turning up any foreign talent.

In my fictional league I have my total scouting budget set at 30% higher than the league average, with international scouting accounting for about 40% of my total budget. My scouts produce about one prospect every three weeks.

Strangely, though, the actual scouting report always says the player is terrible.

I still sign them.

That's what mega's saying, mp. International scouting does, indeed, scout international leagues, but when you receive a message from that scout, he's not telling you French have a really decent prospect going to hit the waiver wire. He'll be "discovering" such a player, French or not and maybe not even in France, who was previously hidden.

In the current iteration, IIRC, you'll have a limited number of days to sign the player before he hits the free agent market. I think what mega's saying - and frankly I don't know if it's actually the case - is that the Create Hidden Player option may have not been activated for the roster set. That means there won't be any players found.

I have the create and maintain hidden players box checked. Maybe I'm just getting used to 10. My scouting seems a tad off what I'm used to in 9. And, it looks like trading is still giveaway mode on "normal" and bleeping impossible on "hard"

Is. it. the. mlb. 2009. rosters.?. I cannot ask that question any plainer. That is the focal point of it all. Tons of people have reported using the included 2009 roster set and MLB quickstart the hidden players just don't get found. I don't know if it's they aren't there or they just aren't getting "found" by the scouts. It works as advertised in a totally fictional league. I left the default %'s for my scouting budget and I got at least 2 every offseason of every year.

It's working for me in both of my leagues. In fact, for the first time since this feature was added my scout actually found someone worth my time and they are on my active roster. However, that was the only one ever found that I bothered to sign. Even the scouting report said the rest would never be worth anything so I don't know why I was bothered in order to be told about them.

Just nicely into a new fictional league started after the patch came out. Scouting budget is at default, as I forgot to change it.

My scout uncovers an international player every so often. Most are terrible. But every so often one pops up who's worth a look. Last guy found was a 3.5 star prospect. Signed him to a minor league contract, so we'll see what happens.
