Player Options

Does anyone know what happens to player options when a player is released? If the guy has an option for the next year am I still on the hook for that money?

In v9, it was a free cut. It counts against next year's expenses when factoring in extension money, but cutting the player carried no penalty. Not sure if it was changed in the new version.

I guess I'm still not entirely clear; will I be on the hook for the cost of the player option next year if I release him?

Based on what Mike D said, it will reduce THIS year the money you have for signing extensions. The extensions themselves cover next year, and subsequent.

Sorry, like I said, I haven't tested the new version options but in v9 you were NOT charged for the option year when you cut the player. So if you have a player who has a 5M contract in the current season with a 5M option for the next and you cut him, you are just charged 5M.

If you keep said player on your roster, the 5M counts against next year's budget when factoring extensions/FA, but you will not be charged for it if you cut. Hope that helps.
