Injury Setting

I imported over from 9. My first spring training game, Andy Pettite goes down for 10 months (guess the steorids finally reared their ugly head). I checked my injury freqency and it was Normal. I saw the High option now says (realistic modern day).

Did it say that in 9, I don't remember that. So that said, what do you think is the proper injury setting that is the most realistic?

This question will open up a lot of hate for the injury file with the game and the one that matter released.

Using the one in the game I use Realistic. It didn't say that in 9, it is basically a higher setting IMO. I love it and since the last patch it has gotten a lot better. This is just my opinion. Let the debate begin.

In my opinion Matters file is the best thing to use. It seems to have a the same number of injuries as the realistic setting but the durations are shorter. There are a lot more 4,5 week injuries and less 8,9 month injuries. You do have to get passed the messages being messed up and saying your player suffered a 4, but I think its worth it.

Ha -- so I'm hearing 1 vote for each. Any other votes to sway this?

I like that file, was browsing the under the knife report and the durations looked much more realistic.

I also use the one that came with the game and am really liking it. It is realistic (you can argue about CEI but in abstract it does a good job IMHO) and makes you use your 40 man roster instead of just cruising through seasons without having to make tough decisions.

I prefer the default as it was made by injurylog who is on the beta team and tested\adjusted the file as the game was being coded. I respect what Matter has done and don't doubt that he has put a lot of work into his file and I'm sure it will make many happy. However injurylog has posted many times why the file is set up as it is to achieve realistic results and I'll rely on those explanations as he knows more about how it all works under the hood than any of us on the outside.

My 2 cents.

Is there a big difference between normal and realistic? It seems I have been using normal but the higher standard seems to be the norm and more realistic.

I think there is a difference in what is realistic and what feel realistic. The game's injury file is realistic, but for a lot of people it doesn't "feel" realistic or isn't fun. In the end use or alter the file that gives you the most enjoyment.

Sweed -- so that means you are using the "realistic" setting, not "normal"? I used normal in the last game cause well I thought normal was realistic, but now there is a realistic option which has thrown me off.

I am using "realistic" and am really enjoying it. Injury has forced me to bring up my young stud third-baseman from AAA and also to bring up a young OF who, when drafted, was a can't miss prospect that kind of fizzled in the minors. He is however holding his own on the MLB club.

Also have had to juggle the pitching staff. After patching the pitchers in my league are seeing more long term injury than positions players. Keep in mind though I play them all out so it is a slow pace and I only have about 4 months of a season under my belt, so sample size is small.

I went down to low. It wasn't fun for me at OOTP Classic. Maybe I'll try it again, I have alot more depth in my organization now. My team doctor was pretty terrible at the time too.

I'm using Matter's file in my historical league, and I have to say I have been very impressed. Its quite varied and the injury lengths on average are much shorter. When I was using the default file,I found that I was getting a realistic number of injuries, but unrealistic lengths.Way too many 3+ month long injuries.Just my observation tho,no scientific proof to back it up.

Use whatever injury setting maximizes your own personal enjoyment of your game. And ignore anyone who says otherwise.
