any semi-historical peeps out there?
I am trying to start a semi-historical league starting in 1871 with some real teams and some fictional teams with all fictional players and wondering if anyone is doing a similar project who might be able to ans a few questions or share some settings?
If so, just post your experiences, settings, problems, anything of the kind. Thanks to all who share their thoughts. One of the problems I see in my limited testing is that pitchers seem to dominate the league(s) with very low ERAs, while hitters seem to struggle. Don't have raw data in front of me, but I have seen this overall trend. dcc

Don't let the low ERAs fool you. Remember, it's EARNED run average. In 1871, the average game would feature 7+ errors by each team. |

true, but it is interrupting the batting averages and ERAs for the time being. Is there a work around, or do I have to just live with it and move forward.

Well, this is for a few tests that I ran for 5-25 yrs and team ERAs ranged from 1.25-2.79 for most of the seasons.

If you're using Spritze's DB, he cuts out a few of the clubs that bounced appeared and disappeared from 1871-1876, so that means 9-13 clubs worth of talent for 8 clubs (although some clubs were so poor that "talent" is a stretch). Code:
