MVP stuff
Just thought I'd share something fun I always do when I have sim fictional leagues. I love running stuff in the commissioner mode doing either real replays or fictional things.
So on that note, I always disliked the MVP and PoY choices and didn't want my bias being the sole decider so I put it to a vote of the league. Each player gets a shot based on their stats they made throughout the year. The "Roll Value" they receive comes from those stats. For the MVP the top 5 in batting average receive points. The best Avg receives 5 "Roll value" points, second place gets 4, and so on down to 1. Then I do this for top 5 in HR, top 5 RBI, top 5 SLG, top 3 R, top 3 OBP. There is then a bonus of 1 "Roll value" point for being on a pennant team, and being a gold glover. Also another bonus is if you managed to get points in one of the previous categories mentioned you can get another roll if you appear in the top 5 for SBs. For instance. The NL MVP race of 1974... Top 5 Avg 1. Garr +5 2. Oliver +4 3. Gross +3 4. Buckner +2 5. Madlock +1 Top 5 HR 1. Schmidt +5 2. Bench +4 3. Wynn +3 4. Perez +2 5. Cedeno +1 Top 5 RBI 1. Bench +5 2. Schmidt +4 3. Garvey +3 4. Wynn +2 5. Simmons +1 Top 3 R 1. Rose +3 2. Bench +2 2. Schmidt +1 Top 5 SLG 1. Schmidt +5 2. Stargell +4 3. Smith +3 4. Bench +2 5. Garr +1 Top 3 OBP 1. Morgan +3 2. Stargell +2 3. Bailey +1 Top 5 SB 3. Morgan +3 4. Cedeno +2 Gold Glove Bench +1 Garvey +1 Morgan +1 Cedeno +1 Pennant Garvey +1 Buckner +1 Wynn +1 *Note. To get bonuses from Gold glove, pennants and stolen bases you must appear on the list through the other stats. Total Roll Values Garr - 6 Oliver - 4 Gross - 3 Buckner - 3 Madlock - 1 Schmidt - 15 Bench - 14 Wynn - 6 Perez - 2 Cedeno - 4 Garvey - 5 Simmons - 1 Rose - 3 Stargell - 6 Smith - 3 Morgan - 7 Bailey - 1 Once you have the final roll values you then roll a six sided dice for the value indicated. I prefer an automatic dice roller found on the internet to avoid screw ups. Total Votes Bench - 57 Schmidt - 41 Morgan - 23 Stargell - 21 Garr - 19 Garvey - 19 Wynn - 15 Cedeno - 14 Rose - 14 Gross - 12 Smith - 10 Perez - 8 Oliver - 8 Buckner - 7 Simmons - 5 Madlock - 5 Bailey - 3 Then after I do the voting I add a line to their player history along the lines of "Finished 2nd in NL MVP (41)." for Mike Schmidt for instance. It adds some extra depth for the game and really gets you to know the players better in a fictional league. Helps add a feel to the game as if their really is a media out there voting. Plus the lines added to the player histories are fun to look at 20 years later perhaps come the time for a HoF ballot, to see their MVP voting histories. (i also have a seperate HoF ballot votes system). So their is just something I do for fun and I thought I'd share even though I'm sure you do not care haha. For PoY it goes by top 5 era, top 5 wins, top 5 vorp, top 5 K, top 3 k/bb, top 3 H/9, with pennant and gold glove bonuses. Last edited by hfield007; 07-10-2009 at 12:51 AM. |

Curious what you do with Cy Young and possibly ROY?

Cy Young = PoY
What I do for that is found at the bottom of the post in a condensed version. Should be able to get it just by how I did the MVP. This can be a little time consuming if you choose to edit in the lines into their player history on how they finished. Some may prefer to keep a seperate word document on their computer that keeps the voting history. It takes a little but for me is worth it. You can of course use different stats as guidelines or even just top 3 for everything, the possibilities are about endless. I have had some great MVP races with 4 or 5 men within a couple rolls of each other and this is just a tiny little thing that can make it more interesting.
