The reality is that any game which introduces completely new ratings systems (like the new pitching system) is going to encounter some problems being flawlessly backwards compatible because it has to account for values that weren't there in the old version. And after approximating these values taking into account the existing ratings of the pitchers you have, the resulting ratings made the AI think that these relievers were made better starters than the guys in the rotation.

And, as showed in the initial thread on the topic, the game is flat out wrong in some instances. Guys leading the league in ERA going to AAA? Guys with no history of starting and being closers their entire careers going to the rotation - as KRod is the Mets ace starter apparently in X? C'mon - that's just stupid.

There is no real bug, so to speak, and the game is working properly. Just because Papelbon is the closer in Boston doesn't mean an AI processing raw empirical information with no pre-conceptions wouldn't find him a better starter; after all, he was brought up as a starter, has the stuff to be a starter, and most think that starters are far more valuable than closers.

I think some serious under-estimation of what these core game engine changes meant occurred. OOTPX functions well for leagues designed with its pitching system in mind. Having oddities creep on upon converting older leagues is absolutely unavoidable, unforunately.

When importing leagues in order to continue a league's history in the new version of the game is one of the main features of a game, that is nothing short of unacceptable.

I bought Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 hoping I could use my old roller coasters in the game, and when some of them didn't import correctly I didn't demand a refund claiming the game didn't was unplayable.

If RCT3 advertised that part of the game was being able to import your old info for play on the new game, you should have demanded a refund as the game didn't work as advertised.

Above in bold for my comments. . .

Nobody in this thread is asking you to accept anything. They are giving helpful suggestions so that you can hopefully find a way to enjoy your game if you wind up keeping it, perhaps misunderstanding your post as a quest to find such feedback. You don't get refunds by making posts, so I suppose such a misunderstanding is ... understandable.

Something that perhaps flew under the radar was Silvam14's helpful comment:

I would think refunds would probably be handled by PM or e-mail request. Don't see how posting this on the general forum is going to expedite your request.
I'm not saying that you'll get one, but there are much better and more direct ways of inquiring on the subject which are readily available to you.

You, Sir....have not run a league as long as I do, and have NO IDEA how nervewracking it can be completely upgrading to the newest version of the game so that your league doesn't die a slow "old version less used" death.

That is a very acceptable feature in this Commish's book.

Little unrealistic, but there are always weird requests.

more like buying a car and being upset because you can't transfer over your old upholstery to the new car...

To be fair that's an irrelevant point. It doesn't matter what OTHER games let you do or not do. THIS game is supposed to let you do it. If it doesn't/didn't (as I've had no such problem), that would be a failed aspect of the game.

The game converts OOTP 9 leagues as good as possible. The examples stated that suddenly relievers in OOTP 9 start in OOTP 10 is not a relevant point, these pitchers could have been used as starters in OOTP 9 and they would have performed well of their ratings were good. OOTP 9 basically had an AI flaw in that it did not use these pitchers as starters even if they could start (on a 1-100 endurance scale anybody above 25 was able to start). OOTP 10 fixes this, leading to optimized rosters.

If anyone feels that this sevelery hinders the enjoyment of the game, contact support@elicense.com for a refund request.
