Importing rosters -- Frustrating

I've never had troubles importing csv/txt files that were exported from one league and then imported into another, as long as the player IDs existed in the new game and team IDs matched. However, try as I might, I can't get my export from my initial creation of a league to import in another version, despite everything matching up. It acts like it imports, no errors, but nothing is overwritten, the player names don't change, they're not assigned to the teams, nothing.

I even tried exporting from the newer league and then just copying the data from the other export into keeping the player and team IDs from the newer file. It's beginning to get frustrating as it's the only way to keep player data I got how I want it and be able to edit the databases and get those edits into the league.

It must have something to do with the new league... even if I export the rosters from it, edit a players name and reimport... it doesn't change.

What am I missing here? What could be the problem with the new league? There are no errors or anything.

There is a note in the exported roster file that states

NOTE: Player and team names are purely cosmetical and will not be used when importing.

So why even have this function if it's purely cosmetical? really hinders roster editing.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh. Creating a very quick fictional league... imports fine. Recreating the league setup I want... nada.

The player names are in the file so you don't have to research who player 5614 is. And then repeat that several hundred times.

I can't answer why the rosters.txt file doesn't permit you to alter player names, but that's why the player names are in the file to begin with.

OK that makes sense. Being able to edit the names in import export would be awesome though.

Mine is going beyond the names--it won't even assign the players to the proper teams despite the team ID slot being correct.

For what it's worth, I think it has always been that way; that names don't import from the roster.txt file.....

It's entirely possible that my memory is faulty and I have never done this in previous version--take an export from a different league and import it into the current one. Pretty sure I have and since it's just a comma delimited file, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work if everything matches.

I always thought it was just team names, but I'm usually importing into a league with the same player names, just other things adjusted, so you're probably right.

One way that works to get the names into your new league is to save the old one as a template and then import that template into your new league. It gives the players all new IDs but you get them into the league. This is how I've done it in the past.
