AI starts bullpen far too often

Hello,

I didn't know whether to post this in support or not. I'm in an online league.

I find that the AI is skipping over my starters often and starting the bullpen. At the trade deadline, I have a reliever with 3 stamina having already thrown 92.1 innings, with multiple starts. The #3 starter, who has not been hurt, and has been in the #3 slot most of the season, has 63.0 IP. His ERA is more than fair at 4.00. I recently promoted a guy from the minors. The AI skipped over him twice to make starts out of the bullpen.

My rotation is set to 5-man, strict order. I don't have anything in anyone's player strategy that would tell my AI manager to skip over rotation guys.

Anyone else having these troubles?

Make sure you don't have any spot starters in your pitching setup. Aside from that, you might want to either go to a 6 man rotation or put your pitchers on pitch counts. If you have a 6 man rotation (strict order) and nobody listed as a spot starter this should *never* happen unless you have an injury.

But isn't the downside of using a strict 6 man rotation that your top guys get fewer starts? One shouldn't need to use a strategy like that to "trick" the game into doing what it was supposed to do in the first place. Others have reported similar problems with starters being skipped. For example .... http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ing-my-sp.html. I'd suggest that the O.P. put this into the Tech Support section. Never hurts to remind the nabobs of problems that need fixing.

Some would argue it's not a problem that needs fixing. Frequently in the majors guys start with 5 full days rest due to Mondays or Thursdays off. Adn also frequently in the majors guys have some pretty strict pitch counts. IMHO the pitching model does an excellent job of simulating these things. One cutrrent example is Kawakami of the Braves. His numbers so far this year are better with 5 days rest than 4.

I'm sure you're correct about those things, but I think the point is that the original poster had a starting pitcher in the #3 starter's spot who wasn't being used, with the AI was bringing someone in out of the bullpen to take his start. It doesn't seem to be a matter of pitch counts etc. as much as it does the AI deciding that the #3 starter wouldn't be allowed to pitch for some reason. It would be nice if Strict Rotation provided just that, with the specified starters being used in order, rather than the AI tinkering with the manager's intentions. As seen in this thread AI simply won't use a pitcher there does appear to be some sort of problem with the AI simply deciding that certain pitchers aren't going to start no matter what.

Are you certain that the pitchers are set up properly?

I uncovered an issue where the AI randomly switched all of my pitching assignments, and I found my rotation all of a sudden populated with middle relievers. I wouldn't have even know if I hadn't noticed a back-end bullpen guy scheduled to start.

In our online league we sim 15 days at a time. I was having the same problem because I was using 7 day lineups and the computer would get confused when the 8th game came up. Since I have went away with the 7 day lineups everything has been fine.
