mysql export into next season and beyond?

About to move my league into its second season and I'm curious (afraid) of the mysql export - specifically the players_game_batting, players_game_pitching_stats, and team_record tables. Will these be reset and emptied of the last year's data, or appended to?

My guess is team_record will have to be reset as there is no date column...

I actually don't know. I keep separate tables for this season and all prior seasons. Partially because I converted from an non-OOTP league.

Do you just keep manual archives, or is there some game setting to provide this?

The 1st two tables you mentioned definitely get overwritten once you start the next season. I haven't checked the third one, but it sounds like it's probably the same.

Of course, if you have the exports done annually, you won't lose the data since you'll have each season's exports stored in a different folder (named by year). You're only in trouble if you don't export before the next season begins, so I'd recommend setting it to automatically do so if you haven't already.

Will annual exports create mysql dumps or just the HTML pages?

To have the game automatically save each season's mysql (or csv or access) exports, go to the game menu and then choose "game setup" and then click on the "almanac options" tab. Towards the bottom, you'll see the monthly or yearly dumps you can do.

The almanac tab has both the almanac export options and the mysql, csv, access dump options on it.

I do a ton of manual stuff. I just wanted to pipe in, because I know we talked a bit about MySQL before.

All three get reset, although team_record information is stored in team_history_record for past seasons, so you don't lose that information. You just have to look elswhere for it. I think most of the other team tables work the same way.

e.g.
team_record -> team_history_record
team_batting_stats -> team_history_batting_stats
team_pitching_stats -> team_history_pitching_stats
...

Note that not all team tables have a corresponding history table

You may still need to test what you actually get out of these settings. I haven't looked at this in ages, but I recalled at some point long ago (OOTP8, I think) that the annual dump happens in December. Some of the files in the data dump get reset once the offseason begins a day or two after the last game of the postseason, which would make a December dump lack some of the data you'd want in it. I don't know if OOTPX handles this better or not.

If I set the Almanac 'Auto data dump options' to 'Monthly data dump to MySQL file' and 'Yearly data dump to MySQL' file do I need to do anything to trigger these dumps (har har har) or will they happen as necessary when I save the game?

Good point, I forgot about that possibility. I'll have to check into this.

They will occur automatically as the in game time progresses to a new month or a new year.

Hrmmm. I generated the Almanac manually and I can't find any SQL files... no *.sql files anywhere in my .lg folder. Any ideas?

Updating--- the manual almanac creation doesn't seem to create the SQL dumps, but when I passed Sept. 30 the dump/ directory was created and the SQL exports generated.

Cool..

If you want to do a sql dump manually, go to the game menu and choose "database info" and then choose the tools menu/button in the bottom right and you can configure the dump and create it from here at any time.

Any idea if it's possible to generate mysql dumps historically? It'd be nice to go back and have all the dumps for the months I wasn't generating them to provide historical data.

As far as I know, it's not. However, if you're still in the first year, you can get the monthly data (or for any time period in the season) manually (using Excel, your own custom made software, etc.) since you have the game by game data still, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Obviously, if you passed into the next year and played out any games, you'll start losing previously played games.
