Very Unusual DP (runner out at home, runner out at 3rd)

Just had a very unusual DP with my expansion Mets - a 7-2-5 with 0 outs, a man on, and the tying run at the plate on in the bottom of the ninth!

Wowee!

Has anyone ever seen this type of DP in the big leagues?

Sure. Very often a runner will try to advance if the throw goes on through to the catcher. If the baserunner is particularly indecisive or initially misses the sign and picks it up late, there is an oft chance to nail him advancing too.

Oh man, if this was Piniella's Cubs, and I was on the team - I would probably give a tenth of my salary not to be in clubhouse after the game - two runners out on the bases in one play that could have tied the game ... and the last batter looks at strike three.

Of course, though, Piniella would have been thrown out of the game after digging up home plate, throwing it at the home plate ump and then throwing 3rd base, and then after ranting at the ump after he is thrown out of the stadium, he would have gone to 2nd and 1st and thrown those just for completeness sake.

But yeah, OOTP is a great game when it gets these plays in!

Oh, come on, Piniella's only been tossed a few times this season. It's not like he's Earl Weaver or something.

I saw Piniella get tossed last month and all he did was throw his cap on the ground and yell at the ump. Bush league. In the same situation Earl would have turned the air blue, kicked dirt on the ump and then thrown a base or two.

I think I actually saw this in an Indians game last year. Cool play to watch.
