Number of Ethnicities

Can someone please settle this once and for all?

Exactly how many different ethnicities can be assigned to each nation?

The text database ("ethnicities.txt") only contains 4 fields for ethnicities. However, the in-game nation editor has 5 fields.

So which is it?

If I add a new ethnicity via the nation editor, will it "take" or is the last field ignored? And if it does get applied to the game... what's up with that? Why the difference between the editor and the database? Kinda confusing, if you ask me.

There's room for five in the database so the fifth one should take.

I kept refering to the "ethnicities.txt" file in the database, but I meant the "nations.txt" file. That's the one with only 4 fields for ethnicities.

So same question, substituting "ethnicities.txt" with "nations.txt" in my original post.

I assumed from what you had described you meant nations.txt so answered accordingly.

Thanks for the response, Tony, but I'm still a little confused.

Here is the header string in the nations.txt file:

ID,Country Long,Country Short,Abbr,Country Short,Region,Baseball Level,Ethnicity1,%,Ethnicity2,%,Ethnicity3,%,Ethni city4,%,african,asian,caucasian,east_indian,hispan ic,,

Now, I do notice there are 2 extra commas at the end of this string. I'm assuming that's how there's room for a 5th ethnicity. However, does this mean all of the facegen fields should be shifted over two spaces?

In other words, should it perhaps read this way:

ID,Country Long,Country Short,Abbr,Country Short,Region,Baseball Level,Ethnicity1,%,Ethnicity2,%,Ethnicity3,%,Ethni city4,%,Ethnicity5,%,african,asian,caucasian,east_indian,hispanic

And further assuming that I have this correct, I'm curious as to why the "Ethnicity5" header and percentage wasn't listed... or if it just wasn't in mine.

No, you can't do it from that file, but IIRC the nation editor in game has space for 5. It's not possible to create a nations.txt to make it appear in every new game.

Heh. I thought he was talking about the facegen settings, not the ethnicity %.

btw, I hope this is one of those nagging little irregularities in the game that gets fixed in the next version. (Actually, I hope to see a good 10-12 ethnicities per nation and at least double the number of total ethnicities used in the game in the new version! )
