Players with both batting and pitching potential
Anyone have any experience w/ these types of players? I drafted one in an online league, and I've been attempting to have him start, then bat on his days off. However, he has come up with two tendinitis injuries so far, shoulder and elbow for about 2 wks each, and it's not even August yet. I'm trying to figure out if this is random chance or if he is being overworked. He regains his stamina normally, even while playing the field, and I have it set that he doesn't start unless he isn't tired.

Bear in mind that he wont get any better as a hitter. I don't know why, but pitchers in OOTP don't develop as hitters. At all as far as I know, so the ratings he has as a hitter now will remain static.

Supposedly it has to do, rather improbably, with the "Hold Runners" rating. If it's anything other than zero they don't develop as a hitter. You can't set any ratings to zero in the editor either.

I note that in the Japan player database fully 20% of Japanese players are pitchers and position players during the same year and not just historical players but current players as well. This batter/pitcher challenge has a huge negatory impact on 19th century play as well as Negro league and the aforementioned Japanese play in OOTPx. I believe it is not a fixable oversight at the moment. On a wish list is where it resides, right next to my supermodel requests. Neither is happening any time soon I expect.

In my experience (I draft these players all the time) I have found that if you change them to a position player, they do get better and some eventually make it to the big leagues.
Others actually improve their pitching ratings when they are position players and I change them back. |
