Somewhere between Joaquin Arias and Alex Rodriguez. I mean, he's (possibly) 16 years old, he may be lucky to have a career as successful as Arias, who made it to the majors.
But, if I had to give him some reasonable ratings: Miguel Sano Born: 5-11-1993 (deemed unverified by MLB) Ht/Wt: 6'3" / 210 Bats/Throws: R / R Offensive Ratings (1-250) Code:

Based on the scouting reports I've read, here's about where his ratings should be on a 1-10 scale....
Contact: 2 Current, 5-6 Potential Gap: 3 Current, 6-8 Potential Power: 3 Current, 8 Potential Eye: 2 Current, 4-5 Potential Avoid K: 1-2 Current, 4-5 Potential 3rd Base Position Rating: 6 Shortstop Position Rating: 4 |

Thanks, I edited it. It's still unverified by the MLB though. It's great to have "a body that I've never seen on a 16-year-old", until they find out he's 18.
![]() Mind you, while your projections on a 1-10 scale look good, pretty much in line with what I had, there's no way I'd rate 16 year old who's never swung a bat in a live pro game higher than 1-1-1-1-1. A-Rod struggled when he was 18, which is two years older than Sano, and this is after A-Rod hit .312 with 21 HR at A-AA-AAA. Part of what you're buying into here is that you have zippo to know what you're going to have with a 16 year old in a few years. He needs to earn his ratings in OOTP, because the talent changes that he could get in-game are akin to washing out in real-life. So for a 16-year-old, he should have the longest climb to the potential ratings, because his eventual ratings should be subject to more uncertainty than a prospect at 21 or 22 year old. Also, the scouting reports don't mention that he plays 3B, just that he will likely have to move to 3B as he fills out. So he'd probably have a 1 or a negligible rating at 3B until he logged experience at the position in the minors. Last edited by BMW; 09-30-2009 at 05:56 PM. |

Sano will have to move to 3B. The only way to rate him and preserve that fact is by having his 3B rating higher than his SS rating. However, SS is the only position he's played so far. It doesn't really make sense for him to have a better rating at a position he's never played. There's almost the need for current and potential position ratings, so that his SS current rating would be higher than 3B .... but his potential 3B rating would be better than SS. |

He has 170 experience at SS, and he has a 3 rating there right now. But even when he reaches the max experience, he'll still be a 3. Which you probably won't want as a MLB shortstop. With his raw ratings, you could also turn him into a good 1B, or a decent LF or RF. He'd never be a C, CF and his success down the road at 2B/SS would be pretty low. |

The Pirates scouts were projecting him as a RF as he appearently has an incredible throwing arm and he has a big frame and might still be growing. Had they signed him, he most likely would not have stayed at SS for long. Not sure about the Twins plans though.
