Game Continually Skips Starter

I am in the process of simming my season one game at a time and I spent awhile setting up the rotation. I am running a 5 man rotation, starting the highest rested starter. For a month now I have watched the game skip my 5th starter. He is not injured or tired. He has not been used the entire month. I had a spot starter set to start 20% but removed him after one month. I have also moved this starter who has been skipped from the 5th slot to the 4th. He still gets skipped for starters that are 85% rested. The sim screen shows this pitcher as the starter for that day but when I quick sim the game the next highest rested starter has pitched.

I have triple checked to make sure he is not tired, injured or suspended. His position is set as a starting pitcher and his projected role is a starting pitcher.

What the heck is going on? My rotation has seen its performance drop due to the fact I am not able to fully rest the rotation and use this 5th starter.

If you are using 7 day lineups this gets flubbed up some how. Turn that option off and see if that helps.

Why not just simply switch to strict order for your rotation?

This is considered rested by the game. If you look on the profile of the guy who is being used instead of your skipped 5th starter, it will even say 'Rested - 85%' in green lettering. If you use the Highest Rested Starter option, guys will start when they get above 80% (IIRC). If you really want to use your fifth starter, you need to use the Strict Order option or use the 7-day lineups to choose your starter.

Basically, the game is working as intended.

It's 85% in the current version.

Anyway, the next patch will set it to 90% (unless it is late in the season and a pennant race, then it's 85% again) and add a new rotation option too. This is what I just posted in the beta forum:

Hey guys,

I was checking the final MLB league leaders today, and discovered again that starting pitchers do not get the number of stars they got 5 or 10 years ago. This led me to add a new rotation mode, calling it 'Strict, occasially highest rested'. What it does is use the strict rotation, but when the situation merits it (long break, meaningful games late in the season), chooses the best rested starter.

This results in more realistic modern day 'Games Started' numbers. In the past three seasons, the MLB leader had just 35 GS, with 5-10 pitchers coming in at 34. I just ran a 30 team test sim with the new option, and guess what, the leader had 35 GS and 8 pitchers had 34. So, this works more realistically now The "Highest rested" option has the leaders with about 2 more starts than that in a season, and it works well for years prior to 2005.

Cheers,
Markus

Well, when this was occuring for me the only way I could get to work correctly was to disable 7 day lineups and use strict order. Otherwise the guy never got a start in over 2 months.

Fair enough. Thank you for the help.

I just do not remember the game working like this. That might just be me though. It would be nice if we could choose the percent the game considers fully rested. Or at least the way it handles the rotation on our own team.

Well this is weird. I set it to strict order and it still skipping this particular pitcher. He is fully rested, not injured or suspended, set as a starting pitcher....yet every time it gets to his turn in the rotation (and it shows on the sim screen as having him set as the starter for that night) it decides to start a pitcher I had moved from the rotation to MR earlier in the season. 7 day lineups are turned off.

*edit* The game has something against this pitcher. 2 starters went down for a couple of weeks and I was forced to move a MR to the rotation and move Joe Savory to the #4 spot in the rotation. Every time it gets to his spot, even in strict order, he is skipped. Why? Every single time it sends a MR to the mound. This is getting frustrating.

Did you edit an injury off this guy? If you did you forgot to clear out the 'DTD injury effect (in %).'

This happened to me when a player was 19-0 late in late September, but got hurt in his last start. I wanted to see if he could go 20-0 with about three games left in the season, so I took the injury off. Even though I made him the 'next starter' for each of those games, the AI never selected him. I dropped him from the post season roster, to be fair, so he didn't pitch post season. However, he didn't pitch at all in Spring Training, and he missed his first start the next season. Finally I noticed the DTD effect was around 43% and not dropping (since he wasn't marked for an injury to come off.)

Anyway, check that out.

That was it. I don't even remember why I edited the injury at the time. Thank you.

I doubt it since I don't seem to be "Smarter than a 5th grader"

That's a "game show" in the event some don't know.

i am having this problem at the end of every season. i cannot sim the day in the last couple few games of the year without it skipping the starting pitcher who is next in line. i can drop every pitcher off my active roster, and it will still not pitch him. i have to manually play the game. it cost one of my pitchers a league season win's record once.
