The last version of the leagues I played in, most of the players used 6.12, and a few were on 6.5. Then I was using ootp7, and the commish was on ootp 2007, or 8(can't remember).

So from where I'm coming from(and i've had versions of ootp since 3 or 4), it was much more expected that the new patch could be run by the commish, and the users could use whichever version they were currently on(if their other leagues didn't upgrade)

Well, in this case they did tell us when to expect the patch. Then the mac fell behind, I believe, on the day of release. I suppose they could have lied and said they were all delayed but then what if it leaked out that they did lie? Imagine the firestorm, all of the "I can never trust Markus again" posts. NDAs or not these things have a way of getting out.

IMHO you hit the nail on the head that the patch announcement from OOTP Dev. should have given a full explanation that some formats, or whatever is causing issues, had changed and that online leagues would have to all make the switch at the same time. In this case that would entail any leagues with mac users having to wait. Also include instructions on how to run two versions (as AlanT posted) for those that participate in more than one league.

The error was not in releasing the pc patch for solo users or for leagues that only have pc users. The error was not posting in the announcement, in bold letters, the issues that would apply to online leagues.

I don't think it would have been that hard for Markus, et al, to send out a note to all the users, announcing the patch. And then simultaneously to state that for the interest of every league and the community, that all users/leagues need to upgrade to the newest version right now.

Exactly. If it had been spelled out from the beginning most issues could have been avoided. Except of course mac users being mad (understandable, I would be too) that they were left waiting for their patch.

Doesnt FM allow for the option of what patch you want to use? Or maybe I am thinking of database. Been awhile since I played it.

I would guess that in this world, we would be posting this in the Baseball Mogul forums as this would clearly be the best baseball sim out there!
