Game not generating enough draft prospects

Hey All,

I'm running patch 3 and have a historical league that started in '79. I'm on my 3rd season, and the system is not generating enough draft players in the pool.

This year (the 3rd), it only generated 143 players. I have the draft set to 43 rounds and for the system to not allow ghost players.

In the past 2 years, it was the standard 25 rounds, and I had ghost players enabled.

What can I do? I can't develop talent with only 5 picks a year.

Thanks
Michael

Hey Michael. Unfortunately you're asking the game to do something it cannot do. As you are playing with a historical league, and drafting real-life players, you will only be able to get as many as the number that debuted in MLB in that year in real-life. To wit:

1980 (1979 draft) - 145
1981 (1980 draft) - 146
1982 (1981 draft) - 142
1983 (1982 draft) - 158
1984 (1983 draft) - 132

and so on and so forth. If you want only real-life players then you're going to have to accept the fact that there are just not enough players for a 43 round draft. I believe you can mix historical players with fictional players and prevent the fictionals from making the big leagues, unless of course you need them due to injuries or you can go all fictional, but if you play with only historical players then you only get those that actually made the big leagues. I hear Sean Lahman, creator of the mother of all MLB databases, is thinking of doing a minor league one, which would be a massive project because it would be at least 10 times the size of his major league one, but until he does that you're kinda stuck with those three options. Sorry, wish I could be of more help.

Is there a proper combination of options I can choose for Historical leagues to mix both real and fictional players in the draft? How do I set that up from the beginning?

You'll want to include at least a college feeder league. The number of teams is up to you, but supposedly there is a formula that will determine how many teams you need, depending on how deep a draft you want.
