Manual Awards Question...
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I've been looking around for this answer can't seem to find one.
I enjoy doing manual awards at the end of the season for my fictional league. It helps me keep in touch with the players, etc. However, I'm curious as to why the game asks for a top three for the major awards. Is there any effect at all to finishing #2 or 3 in an award category? Does it affect the players' popularity, future salary, or... well, anything? If so, why doesn't it show up in their history? If not, what's the point of selecting runners-up at all? Thanks in advance for any insight, RJB |

This is a good question that deserves a bump. To answer directly, I have never seen any reports of any effects of Place and Show in the awards process. For my custom award, I leave #2 and #3 blank with no ill results that I have noticed.
The only thing that I can think of is the game is giving you its top three choices when you are doing awards manually so that you have its top three recommendations to choose from. That might be why it's designed that way. Any other ideas? |

On a related note, I've posted in the Suggestion forum for next version (I think that's where) that player histories should incorporate "candidate" info based on these slots. For example, Jim Long's history might include the notation, "three time Cy Young candidate." Although never receiving the award, it bears mention he was in the top tier at least those three times, etc...

^ Similarly, the ability to calculate something like Award Shares-- tallying up a player's career performance in the award voting-- might be a cool addition, not to mention helpful when picking Hall of Famers.
But since this version doesn't do that, I'm still mystified on the original question... |

I think Deja B's on the right track. Probably there to assist the decision making while you adjust the one you prefer to the award-winning slot. He's on the mark about so many things, eh?

Actually, that's a thought I hadn't considered. Easy enough to check in the editor. Good point, Herb. I would hope that it is the case.

I can confirm that 2nd and 3rd place finishes do not end up in the data dump. I presume they don't get in the in-game database, too, but wouldn't know for sure. I always assumed it was just the game recommending guys, but the popularity boost seems plausible, too.
