Questions about signing and releasing

OK, I have a question ... the timing in OOTP to do administrative signing and releasing seems a bit screwy.

A couple of things:

1. When is the best time to resign staff? I have a small league with no playoffs, so offseason starts two days after the season ends. My pitching coach's contract is up this year. After the last game I offer him an extension and meet his demand. On the first day of the offseason it says he's leaving because his contract wasn't extended. How many days before the end of the season is the minimum # of days you can resign staff?

2. How about dropping players? I have a small league, as stated. Financials are on, but no free agency or arbitration. Same deal. I MUST drop a player on that one day between the last game and the offseason, else they'll get next year's salary. Is that the rule? All player releases must occur between before offseason else the contract is extended?

3. While we're at it, a demotion bug that's been around a while. Spring training ends and all AI teams demote non-active players the day of the season start. If I do that all demoted players show 1 day Major League experience, so I'm forced to demote the day BEFORE opening day.

Unfortunately, OOTP as yet has no provisions for termination pay/contract buyouts. If it did, then you could cut players still under reserve by buying out their contract, with the payment being a certain portion of the contract value for that season.
