)However, I do agree that there needs to be an "appeal" function in the game. I believe it might have even been one of my myriad suggestions several versions ago. Of course, it obviously got overlooked. But I still think it's needed. Like I always say, OOTP should be as realistic as possible. And since there are appeals IRL, they should also be in OOTP! To the OP: In the meantime, I'm gonna go against the tide of popular opinion here and say that you SHOULD abbreviate the suspensions and here's why: Can you imagine this same scenario occuring in MLB? There would be such an uproar over it, you know the suspensions would be reduced, if not overturned altogether. Remember, this involves two teams in a heated playoff race and (presumably) a couple of high-profile players. Real baseball wouldn't want to risk even a slight decrease in ratings and merchandising if they can at all help it, especially considering one of the teams is from New York! It may not be fair, but that's the way the business of baseball works. Some of the OOTP purists understandably argue the point that OOTP should be an escape from the "dark side" of real-life baseball. I, on the other hand, tend to disagree. I've said it before and I'll say it again... When I play OOTP, I want to feel like I'm watching a REAL baseball league--warts and all, not just a bunch of robots generating statistics. That's why these types of things should always be optional in OOTP. So my advice would be to actually put yourself in the Commissioner's shoes, or whoever's in charge of discipline in your league. Weigh the "facts" of the incidents, consider the ramifications (both good and bad), and make the call. If you think it would happen in real life, then by all means, you should reduce the suspensions... and hopefully you'll have the option to actually do it in the game in a future version! (Besides, it's not like you're "healing" a player with a CEI. That would be playing God. You're just playing Bud Selig! )

I agree the suspensions may be harsh and would probably be reduced irl.
But i where do you draw the line. What if it happens before the all-star break. Say Jeter gets suspended for 10 games and Manny Ramirez for 10 games at the end of the year. You reduce the suspension of one. You may not be playing God as with CEI but your still effecting the outcome. For me its just too easy for me to favor players. Even fictional ones i may tend to favor. Thats why i prefer a hands off approach. If i could be fair to all the teams i would reduce suspensions but i know i would favor certain players and it would lose some of the fun because in the back of my mind i would know that i was allowing bad things to happen to players i didnt care about. If this was an online league should or would it be reduced? |

The feedback is much appreciated. I ultimately decided to go with the masses here and not touch the suspensions. Had they happened the same day, I likely would have reduced them. But since McCormick was three games into his suspension when Oswalt's happened, I decided to leave it alone. A good story in my league's history.
