If things get this complex it sure would be nice to set things up the way one wants and be able to SAVE these screens to apply to the next league one might wish to try. Not a Quickstart/Template but a simple save of ones choices.

My suggestions (Sorry if these have already been mentioned.)

* Have A "Easy" And "Full" Mode for all this. Easy lets you choose teams and and names and stuff, but keeps everything MLB normal and doesn't scare you away with tonnes of options. Full mode is what you've got and allows for us who like to spend 4 hours creating and 1 hour playing. Make sure Joe Blogs who wants to play as the Reno Rough Riders can do that in a snap
You must have been channeling that to me as I was writing my last post.

Actually, your point about the intimidation factor is a good argument in favor of the Detail Level/Mode idea. Even if all the options are preset, it might be a little overwhelming for some newer players to open up the screens and see all these many options.

* LOVE the idea about regions, but you should definitely order anything region or nation specific in order of popularity in the region. IE:
not
Afganistan
Australia
Austria
...
Canada
...
United states.

but
United States
Canada
Mexico
Dominican Republic
(Other big nations in order of popularity)
Afganistan
Austria (The rest in alphabetical order.)

Errr...that was it.
Yep, I think the game already does this when you access nation menus within the game. And honestly, I think it's needed even more in this context, as it might be visually awkward to have to scroll down thriough dozens of nations before you see anything other than a "0%" in there. So yeah, I'd be all for placing the nations with the higher-level ratings at the top, followed by the rest in alphabetical order.

However--and this is regardless of whether the percentage editor is implemented or not--I think all nation menus should have the nations with a Baseball Level of 5 or 4, instead of just the 5's. I usually only have 2 or 3 (sometimes just the USA) rated at 5, so this isn't that helpful as it is. Even with 4's thrown in, you're still only looking at about 5-10 nations at the top. (Hmm... come to think of it, maybe 3's should even be up there, too! )

Either way, I'm glad you mentioned it, Hazza. I'm definitely down with this idea.

The difference is you'd have a screen where you'd select which leagues would contribute qualifiers for this multi-league playoffs. Then, for each league, and you'd enable the positional finishers you want to move on to this post-season, just like you do now in OOTP with custom playoffs. Or, you could elect to just take the individual league playoff champions into the post-season.

Once you've got your qualifiers determined, you set up how they'll be matched up, again using a system similar to OOTP's current custom playoffs procedures.
So this would almost have to be part of the Game Setup menu, since the tournament would be in the universe, but outside of any specific league, right?

I'd think of it as being on a universe-level screen. OOTP has team- and league-level screens, but nothing at the universe level. (This is a shortcoming in the game, I think, because it makes navigating between and keeping up on all the leagues one may create in a given OOTP universe more difficult than it need be.)

So, while the playoffs for a league are set up on a league-level screen, multiple league playoffs would be set up on a universe-level game screen.

Or, alteratively, a screen dedicated specifically to creating playoffs between separate leagues.

A special thanks to Muzamba and LGO.

They are visionaries that deserve Markus' attention.

Please email him your proposals directly. Otherwise he may not see this fine thread.

I'll try and set something like this up and post the mockie, although I think it's probably gonna end up looking a lot like the *Game Setup menu.

It'll obviously have the Universal Playoffs and my idea of Universal HoF, but do you have any ideas as to what else should be included?

*EDIT: I keep saying Game Setup, but I what I mean here is Global Setup.

Thanks, Eugene.

If LGO isn't yet a permanent fixture on the design team, something is seriously wrong in the OOTP universe. I'd hire him as a full-time consultant for his rules/schedule knowledge alone!

I'm sure that once I (or we, depending on how much time LGO has to devote to this project) have a complete set of polished mock-ups and detailed descriptions of each, we'll email them all to Markus (...or sooner if he indicates he's ready to start working on OOTP11 before then. )

Lol. I try.

I tend to thank posts if I think there's nothing I can or need to add to them.

I agree that LGO should be on the design team if at all possible.

Well, it is appreciated.

I may not have accumulated all that many posts over the last 8 years (I tend to save up my comments for long, wordy diatribes ) but I figure I can at least maintain a healthy ranking in the thanks-per-post ratio category!

(Even though Markus left me in the dust after he released the last patch. )
