Rule 5 question

I recently drafted a 1B in the rule 5 draft because my scouts said he was a good player. After spring training after which he did not get a single hit, my scouts have 'amended' their scouting report of him, and now regard him as utter crap.

How do I return him back to his original team?
Does OOTP simulate this?
I see that I cannot send him to the minors, but I should be able to return him to his original team instead of just trading him somewhere else.

Never mind. I just saw a line in the manual that says I cannot offer him back to his original team.

Yeah, OOTP doesn't handle post-Rule 5 transactions like returning players per MLB rules. In fact, I'm not even sure OOTP prevents you from sending him to the minors.

You could either handle it manually (i.e. trade him back + $25,000) or just drop him and be done with it.

I can confirm that the game forces you to keep him on the active roster (or on the DL if injured) so that part is done correctly. But that has been correct since the days of OOTP 6, maybe even earlier.

I just wound up trading him for a reliever. I thought about trading him back manually but I figured that the other AI teams wouldn't do it that way, so I won't.

The thing that lead me to believe this was in the game is the message I got reminding me that the rule 5 draft was happening. I am pretty sure it mentioned something about having to keep the player on the active roster, or else return him to his original team. It was later that I found out in the manual that this is not a simualted aspect of the draft.

The reminder message should reflect the rules and restrictions of the simulated rule 5 draft as opposed to the real life one.

It's stuff like this that made me turn the Rule 5 option OFF after a few seasons of dealing with this kind of frustration. If the game can't get it right, then I won't use it.
