How do you backup your league?

I've tried to use the backup feature, but it has never worked on my computer, for any of my leagues. It seems to stall at the beginning of the backup process, and the screen never changes. I end up exiting out of OOTP via the task manager.

Is my computer at fault, or does backing up a league just take 3-4 hours?

It will take some time, depending on the size of the league.

You could always zip up your "lg" folder, then save that to a stick or dvd or cd or external HD.

I zip my leagues up using 7-Zip (Download) and then immediately copy them to a USB flash drive for off-system backup. I used to use CD's and DVD's for off-system backup, but now that I have a 64 GB flash drive it makes them seem obsolete.

Zipping saved games is the fastest way I know of to back them up.

7Zip for me. Its much faster than WinZip. I slide it to an external storage drive for safe keeping.

Each 'initial' file of each new season is uploaded to the TSW Vault for keeping.

I zip it up to my external hard drive and send it to my file hosting site in case either of my hard drives take a dive.

Sending it to the file hosting site is a really good idea.

I always delete old messages/box scores/game logs when I backup. It takes a lot longer if you if you have all those extra files.

Whichever back-up method you use.....
do it at least twice as often as you think you should.

I always tell people that the time between scheduled backups should represent the amount of data they are willing to lose.

I simply copy (externally) the league file off to somewhere else on my hard-drive. I probably should use 7-zip as others mentioned, but don't.

7-Zip compresses files really well, plus it's fast, solid, and free.

Don't feel bad, I've had entire weeks like that.

backup

I copy the league file on my desktop. I also occasionally save it on my laptop. If I'm making major changes. Plus its saved after each sim on my website server.

I save my league in two places - on an external hard drive and on my wife's computer. She has two hard drives. C Drive is used just for back up. I also save it on her C Drive. It may be overkill, but I lost my favorite league because I got lazy and stopped backing it up on a regular basis.

I back up often. The game froze up the other day in the playoffs and I lost only two games.
