Feeder leagues filled with 5 star potential players that suck
Ok so I am setting up a league of 16 teams.
I wanted to use College (20 Teams) and High School (20 Teams) feeders. Is this enough teams with a 16 team league with AAA, AA, A, SSA, R Every player on a college or high school roster has a 5 Star Potential rating.....even if there potential ratings suck. The scouting report talks about how great they are even if there ratings on a 1-10 scale are 4/3/2/7/8 or something like that. Any ideas? |

Star potential ratings are based on everyone at that position in the player database. So that probably speaks more volumes to the quality of players in your major leagues than it does the oversaturation of your feeder leagues. Compared to the potentials of your current major and minor leagues, the players in your feeder are rated as a higher potential in the star system. Also, the star system overvalues (IMO) speed and defense. You'll sometimes see outliers like that, especially at SS and CF and C - highly defensive positions.
Try simming a few years and looking again in your feeders - I would doubt you'd see the same thing as those initial players graduate and similar players are created in the feeders to replace them - those new players in the feeders won't look so good compared to the players now in the major leagues ![]() How long is your draft? Draft rounds are just as important to the amount of feeder teams you need as how many levels you have.

I would think 40 feeder teams would about right for that setup, though Afino is right in that it depends on how many rounds you have.
Here is the math (with some rounding): The average graduates per feeder team is usually 6-7. So with 40 feeder teams, you should have about 250 players in your draft class. 250/16 teams is 15 rounds. So your setup will provide you 15 draft rounds. That is probably about right. If you want more rounds, then you will have to have the game create some players for the draft.

So I have my whole league set up with all rosters blank....I have a inaugural draft and there are 3,700 players in it. Is that good number?
My next step would be to just have the draft simulated. For the Feeder Leagues (college and high school teams).... Do I just click fill teams with fictional players? or do it some other way? Because I didn't think you could set up inaugural draft for your feeder leagues |

One VERY, VERY important point when playing with feeders - once the file is generated (where you're at right now with the inaugural draft), make sure you go into Game Setup -> Rules (or Options, I forget) and change the Created Player Age Max and Min to 14 (or 15) for high school and 17 (or 18) for college. Make sure you change both numbers!
You don't want to change the Minimum/Maximum Age on the other tab, only the CREATED Min/Max. |
