Newbie question re: playing online with friends in solo
My friend and I are thinking about playing OOTP. We'd like to co-GM the same team, but are in different cities. Is it possible to do this or would you have to join an online league?

Easily done together. Just send the file back and forth between you whenever you want to switch control of the team.
You create the league and sim X days. Send the file to your friend. He sims X days. Sends the file to you. You sim X days. Send the file to him. And so on and so forth.

Though personally I would think you guys would want to run your own teams, but 2 guys running one team can certainly be done. |

Yeah, I'm thinking the way you'd do it in an online league would be for you to discuss moves ahead of time and maybe either one guy just be in charge of making the moves in the game or maybe one makes the moves for a month and the other the next month or something like that. Both making moves at the same time, however, probably wouldn't work too well.
I can't say I understand the desire though. I once had 2 guys who wanted to do this and we said sure, but as best as I can recall one guy didn't follow through and the other didn't stay around long either. I'd recommend trying to find a league that has 2 openings in the same division. I'm thinking you'd enjoy the rivalry. That, or one thing Solonor's league does that I'd kind of like to see us adopt: teams can have a GM and an owner where the GM does the day-to-day stuff, but the owner can be in charge of certain decisions as well as has the ultimate say on what goes. I think that'd be great for a situation in which someone liked their team, but just didn't have the time or desire to devote too much time to it. Both would have to be accepting of their roles however.

We've had someone in the GUBA that has been filling a "co-GM" role for a few years now (KQ - you're familiar with him - Kirk Medlin/Kitchener) with a couple of different franchises. He used to have his own team, didn't have time/didn't want to be burdened with the full responsibilities of solo ownership, so he has lent his services (very effectively, I may add) to a couple of teams that are looking for help. Yes, the head GM has the final say, but I know he has substantial input in the team's direction.
That may be the way for you. |
