"Cannot Be Fired" Option, Your Thoughts
I was curious to know what the community's thoughts on the "Cannot Be Fired" option in your dynasty. I've always checked this box so that I can focus on 1 team and then build them up and suffer through the slow years. I've been toying with the idea of starting an '09 dynasty and just starting from the minors and working my way up and wanted to know what others who've done that think about their experience. Let me know your thoughts, thanks!

I haven't tried much of the working through minors thing as it always leaves me feeling ripped off. It basically does not work.
As for the cannot be fired check box, I like to leave unchecked, until I get fired, then I get pissed that the owner did not realize that I have by far the best farm system, a low payroll, and am about to go on a 20 year dynasty run with multiple championships and many, many playoff appearances. So, in summary, turn it on (so you cannot be fired). Especially if you are trying to work through the minors. |

Consider it a contract situation. It's rare to be fired in your first two years IRL if you have a 4-5 year contract.

That and I hated getting burned with previous versions by taking over a 58-104 team, going 68-94 and getting fired for my season score of 12.

I've never turned it on, and I've also never been fired. I think I need to make the game harder? xD
But seriously, I dislike it--it feels disingenuous.

I always play with 'cannot be fired' turned on. I would not even consider buying OOTP if it did not have this option.
The lack of such an option is the main reason I have not bought the last couple of editions of FM. I play sports management games because I want to 'play the game my way' and manage my favorite team, experimenting and building the way I want, for as long as I want.

There is also an OOTP utility you can use to see when to fire yourself if you have this option checked here -- However, the winswap section doesn't work, but he's working on it

I never play with it on...basically I feel if I don't get the results then I should have to face the music just like IRL. Besides, there are so many crazy things that happen with managers getting fired these days that you could virtually never say that something happened that was unrealistic...

I think by not checking the 'can not be fired' box it leaves me totally at the whim of the opening player draft. If I draft late I seem to be behind the 8 ball and will be fired after a poor season or two. If I decide to move myself up to an early draft spot, I might as well check the box.
I would prefer to work up from rookie ball as a manager but you get screwed at that level because the parent club never provides you with replacements for injured players and you end up the season with one starter, an exhausted pitching staff, and no chance to compete. |

I use it 100% guilt free. It's my game, and I'll manage the teams I want to manage in the order that I want to manage them, thankyou.

I never use it, but agree it's necessary i remember building teams only to be fired. I play two ways first i play with it unchecked and take my chances. Right now i'm playing where i resign if i win the world series and start over with whatever jobs are left. So it depends on whether i want to go for a dynasty or rebuild bad teams. I liked Phenom's idea about checking it for the first few season's so you get a fair chance at building a winner....

Cannot be fired
Here's how I do it. I take the first number that comes up during Spider Solitaire and that is my contract length with that team. Let's say it's 5 for 5 years. If I make the playoffs, I get an extra year. For a championship I get two extra years. If after five years and I have not done either one, I resign and take over the worst won/loss team for that year and go through the cycle again. This way I have 5 years to build the club and if it doesn't work, I'm gone.

I showed the boss the "Cannot be fired." check box when I was playing OOTP at work during a very busy time.
Turns out it really DOES work! |
