Historical Replay
For the very first time I'm thinking about setting up an historical replay league. Have always used fictional player leagues for years.
Looking over how to set up a historical replay (2000), I see I have to make a decision on two factors in league setup: 1. Have the league recalculate the players rating at the end of each year... OR let them develop with the potentials they begin with as the league progresses and allow randomness of their careers. 2. Use the player's past three years actual stats (1997-1999) to establish the initial ratings... OR use the player's best year's performance to begin his ratings with. My preferences...let them develop differently from what they actually did AND use their last three years performance as a basis for starting. Would appreciate any insights/comments others may have in this matter. FWIW...I'll continue to play out each of my team's games vs. simming. TXS |

On the surface, recalc isn't a bad option. Unless you've memorized how the players have done each year, you can get some natural variance and not know what to expect from the player. One bad thing about recalcing every year is their fielding position can change. If one year they played LF, but moved to RF, it will happen in your league too. This means if you had a balanced outfield it could be screwed up the next year and you might have 2 RF and no LF. To me using their best year to start doesn't make sense. It seems like that could throw away a whole chunk of their career. Do they regress the next year? |
