[Question] Defensive Ratings

During the career, is defensive ratings developed as offensive ratings do?
In my online league, the rookie players from draft pool have very low defensive ratings... so I'm afraid to pick those players...

That is a good question, I'd like to know as well. I might do my own test to see what happens.

Actual defensive ratings do not go up much (if at all). The position ratings do go up with experience (to a point).

In terms of drafting players, you want to look at Range, Error, Arm, and Turn DP (for infielders).

Most draftees in the player pool will not have good ratings, because they have to gain experience. The higher the attributes listed above, and the more experience they gain at a position, the better rating they will have.

What you especially want to look for in a given position:

1B: Range, Error
2B: Range, Error, Turn DP
SS: Range, Error, Arm, Turn DP - should all be VERY high - in the blues.
3B: Range, Error, Arm
LF: Range, Error (arm too to a lesser extent)
CF: Range, Error (arm too to a lesser extent). Both Range and Error should be VERY high - in the blues.
RF: Range, Error, Arm

I agree with pretty much everything you posted. OOTPX loves to generate strong offensive players who tend to look at a baseball in a confused, frightened manner whenever it is put into play. And poor defensive ratings will kill a team. It seems that, especially in online leagues, people have horrible defensive teams and they wonder why their best pitchers aren't performing as well as they should be. Some teams have crazy BABIP.

Always have defensive replacements, imo.
