Sending or sharing Game Files

I would like to play OOTPX with my brother-in-law on a shared file where we can make roster changes, sim a day, and then share the file back and forth.

Can anyone share with me how to do this?

When I moved my league between computers, I believed I moved E:\Games\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10\data\saved_games\1982 Draft.lg

where E:\Games\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 10 is my install path and 1982 Draft.lg was the folder my league was in.

Well for example, I made a backup, but it won't let me just share the entire file, I have tried sharing the .dat file etc....but I am not sure what all I can do to share it.

You will be emailing the file(s) back and forth?

I am trying to use dropbox.com

and I am now able to share the entire file, but how do we open it up on the other computer?

I was able to share some of the .dat files with him over Dropbox, but I am having trouble with some of the files, and not sure how he can open them up on his laptop.

Do you have a website? If so make the league an online league and you can upload the game file so that your brother can download it via FTP. If you don't have or want to use a website of your own, ping FMontoya and consider using his services. From what I know he provides outstanding value and customer service. I'm considering setting up a 2 player online league with my son and he will be the choice for me.

Would he charge for that? and I do have a website we could use it on somewhere....but I don't know much about using it, it's used for my company, but surely we could set up a password page on there somewhat hidden.

I think you need the whole league structure on each computer. At least initially you would need to put a copy of your league on his computer. Maybe after that you can just share some files but ...

The league is comprised of more than just one .dat file. If you look under the autosave subfolder there are 16 of them. In addition there are a lot of files under the league folder, with many sub folders. Things like messages will be generated as the days pass, as well as news, scouting reports and stuff. I think if you don't pass the whole league folder back and forth it will be easy for those items to get out of sync between the two of you.

One way to experiment is to try and play your same league from two different folders on your computer so you can figure out what you need to copy between the 2 folders. I don't think it will be enough to just share 1 file.

This is reguarding sharing a solo league. I don't know how online leagues work.

ok, new question I guess. How can I share the .lg file and not have it selected when trying to upload? I just want to transfer the entire file and not each individual component

Yes he does, for obvious reasons. Yes you could use your own website. You would have to set up some sort of folder to take the file. Generally game files are zipped (compressed) because of the size. Then you set up a link so that it can be downloaded in or out of the game itself.

I'm out of my league when it comes to FTP etc. Perhaps someone else can chip in with info on the actual process.

You can zip you league folder into one zip file and just share the zip file. Then the other player can unzip it on his computer to get the whole folder structure back. They are big folders. Mine is 600+ meg. Not sure how small they would zip down to. Since it is a lot of text and data files it would probably shrink quite a bit.

How do zip and un-zip?

Are we able to do this without setting up an online league? just sharing our files? Is it even possible?

This is in Windows XP. May be the same on other versions.
1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your league folder (the .lg folder under saved _games).
2. Right click on it.
3. Select 'Send to'
4. Select Compressed folder.

This creates a zipped file. Mine went down to 175 meg from over 600. I do have player and stadium photos in my league, so that adds to the size.

On the other computer you should:
1. Put the zipped file under the saved_games folder.
2. Right click on it and select 'Extract All'.
3. A window opens. Change the path so it ends at the saved_game folder (remove anything after 'saved_games\').
4. Press Next

The above post should work. I've transferred my own league between two computers this way. As a precaution I would make a backup of your league just in case something goes wrong so you'll have something to fall back on.

Still trying out the zip option. my file sharing website seems to be having a problem with the file, but I am also trying to email it.

Post how it goes. It should work. All the zipping, copying and unzipping may get tedious but it should get you what you want.

Says the file is empty when trying to extract all.

Not sure what to try to do.
