Wow--Aging
5 seasons ago in one of my leagues, I traded for a then-35 year old center fielder with 100/100 ratings in every outfield position and blue fielding peripherals, as well as excellent contact and power. He performed admirably for the rest of the season and won a ring with me, but I let him walk that offseason for a draft pick, deciding against signing a 35-year-old to a 5 year deal like he was asking for.
This season, he popped up on my radar due to a 34-game hitting streak. At 40 years old. I took a look at his stats, and OH MY GOD has he aged well. Career before age 35 (12 full seasons): 1700 hits, 345 home runs, .286 AVG. Career after 35 (5 full seasons): 950 hits, 201 home runs, .276 AVG. My aging modifiers are on the default. This guy must have the fountain of youth...and he's still playing! He just signed a 3-year deal!

I like stories like this - OOTP players that defy all the odds and modifiers. Have you thought about trying to reacquire him so that he can retire with your team? It sounds like he might be headed for the Hall of Fame, yes?

I've considered it...especially since he's still a good hitter and obscenely amazing outfielder.

Haha, no, it's Jose "Guns" Flores....and he's 5'11", 176 pounds.
He went on to play 3 more seasons and retired with 2653 hits, going straight to the HoF. He also won two GGs those last three years, all played for my team.

I would watch someone like this to make sure its not a bug. In one league I had a guy at 27 seasons counting minors. Some how the game had his age at 33 meaning he was 6 when first signed. That happened in a fictional league in ootpX. Since then I check the ages after each season and watch for this. I've caught 2 other players headed this way.

I remember reading a fascinating article by Bill James some time ago. He'd devised a complicated formula which balanced the natural ageing process against unusual baseball statistics which seemed to defy mother nature. The formula once applied allowed the statistician to view what James defined as 'unusual careers'.The top 4 unusual careers of all time are
1 Barry Bonds 2 Mark Mcgwire 3 Sammy Sosa 4 Babe Ruth Bill James Online: Interactions with Bill James thru articles, conversations, and more |

MM--nope, he was just drafted at age 17 and in the majors at 19/20.
Elek--I'd say he had a fairly unusual career...but I saw no head swelling! He's a small guy. xD Man, maybe I need to look into this, maybe remove him from the HoF. xD

No- at age '33' he had been in the league for 27 seasons and was not slowing down. Some how during his career the game managed to change his age. If I had not caught who knows how long he would have played. |

Maybe he was saying that Ruth had a better career than anyone who ever played the game and didn't take steroids.

MM--What I was saying is that Flores is not in the same situation as your guy.
