How Do You Sim/Practice for a League

I am pretty new to OOTP, extremely new to playing in an OOTP-based league, and have never played in an online baseball simulation league. That said, I am not new to sports simulations, with most of my experience coming from hockey (Eastside and FaceOff) and football (Sierra's game, Gridiron Dynasty).

My main question concerns how you practice for your upcoming sims? Obviously, baseball is very stat-oriented so you have a great deal of the work laid out for you, but is there anything that simming future games can do for you?

Maybe I am just looking at this wrong because of my experiences in football and hockey where you need to worry about gameplans and linesets.

Thanks for any help.
