Development of New Pitches?

Can it happen? Will pitchers develop new pitches over time or are two pitch pitchers doomed to be two pitch pitchers forever...?

Yes, it can happen. It seems to be pretty random when it occurs.

I just had a (former)reliever; 2 pitch pitcher develop a 3rd pitch and his suggested role changed to SP. Right on time too as i lost one of my starters to FA

I've had it happen too. Not very often, once I am 100% on, 80% for a second time.

A related question.

I have a minor league pitcher with a stamina of 10. His role is a ML (I assume because he only has two pitches).

I set his role to a starter in the strategy section and he seems to get hit around pretty badly, even though he is an 80 prospect.

Is that because of the lack of a 3rd pitch? Also, if I force his role to SP while he's in the minors, is he more likely to develop a 3rd pitch?

I don't know if he is more likely to develop a third pitch as a starter or not, but I tend to operate on the theory that real life teams do with pitchers in the minors. Except for some outstanding projected closer types, most of the good pitchers in the minors in real life with be starters because the teams want them to get the most innings in that they can in order to maximize their development. Even if they project them as longterm relievers, they bridge that gap in the upper minors when the time becomes obvious or a major league bullpen need that the player could fill becomes apparent. I always feel better if my better pitching prospects are starting and getting regular work, until they have reached a level where they are completely ineffective as a starter due to lack of pitches.
