Computer drafting players by name instead of ratings
The computer seems to be drafting players by alphabetical order instead of by abilities. Is there something i need to turn on or off. I wasnt using a budget.
If you can tell me how to post my draft i will if it will help. I can telll you the first pick for 1871 was Francis Abercrombie who played 1 gm irl. Cap Anson wasnt picked till 5 after Doug Allison. Im sure its probably something simple. |

It was going by names because i had removed the historical_database.odb
file from the stats folder. It keeps me from having the teams i want. I guess it mirrors the real draft? I dont want the AI taking a player because he was taken #5 irl but because the ai thinks he is the best player at that position or the best overall player. |

Well, it's supposed to work, but now that I've tested it, you're right. It makes some improvement for inaugural drafts, but only in terms of making many of the top picks well known. But it seems unable to determine whether these established veterans have any future value.

That is because this number is NOT seasonal it is a career value only. It never changes, it is a single number per player in the master.csv file. It is ONLY intended to be used with rookie drafts. To be used for any other purpose there would need to be a seasonal version of this number that decreases until a players retirement. This seasonal value does not exist in any existancial frame of reference. Nope, it don't.

This being said, OOTP needs to change its manual because it's misleading and unclear about how this feature works. You bring up an interesting idea, though. By assigning a seasonal future value to each player, that could be an easier way for the AI to evaluate their future value without resorting to complex algorithms. Is this draft value field something that OOTP Developments adds to the Lahman database? I just downloaded the latest Lahman database, and there is no draft value field mentioned in the readme list of fields in master.csv.
I don't have OOTP 10 yet, so if it was a field added to the database by OOTP Developments, that's why I can't confirm that the field is there. |

Yes, also affirmative. OOTP adds lots of fields for lots of things to the base Lahman csv's. Completely new csv's are also added and some are required for many in game choices to work.
