Thumbs up Partial fix for my "more realistic injury file" DB Import and NEW file...

OK, after trying numerous things and comparing my file to the original file, I have a partial working fix for the problems many people were having relating to reading news stories that would say something like:

"Braun will miss 2-3 weeks after suffering 3"

Now, keep in mind this is a partial fix. Unfortunately it appears there is no way to resolve this completely as the issue is with how it imports the DB itself. It appears this is rather buggy as I had to do something pretty, well, stupid to put it bluntly, to make it work properly. Not sure how something seemingly so easy to fix has not been taken care of already, but whatever.

Anyways, the culprit in the file was the lack of having what amounts to a square box that is not actually a character, but stands for something I am not sure of(a tab maybe?). It copies and pastes perfectly fine inside the document, but will not do so here for me to show you what I mean. Basically the long and the short of it is that any injury that is bracketed at the front and back by a square box will show up perfectly fine. The issue that I still have is that some injuries, based on the length of the injury line are on a separate line, which means there is no way to bracket the beginning of the line with a square box. These are the ones that will still show up improperly.

As of right now, I have no way of fixing it as no matter what I do, the text will not go to the previous line, and when I attempt to put a square box in front, it doesn't work and ends up putting 3 or 4 boxes at the end of many of the lines.

Personally in a game that does so many things well, it is rather ridiculous that I even have to write this and I know just how stupid this really sounds, but unfortunately that is the reality of the situation. I have this working in my game, and I would say probably 70-80% of the injuries are in the correct format now, with maybe 20% still showing up as a numeric injury.

INSTALLATION:

Load game
Go into Game Setup and scroll down to bottom
Click on "Re-import Injury Database"
Quit game
Load game again and play.

Injury DB should work properly.

If anyone has any suggestion as to how to eliminate the last 20% of injuries that will not show up properly until Markus decides to debug the import mechanism, please let me know.

I don't know exactly how you did it and my suggestion might be kind of dumb. But did you try just substituting different conditions and times in the original? I don't know but it seems like that would be the simplest way. If you open it with writer from openoffice (a free office program) it comes out line by line instead of all together. I haven't tried to modify this so I don't really know but thought I'd throw it out just in case.

My file is so much longer than the original its not really even practical. The file appears to need to be jumbled up. Originally I had it line by line and it didn't work properly until I jumbled it.

Then I was right in the first place. I really had no clue. Seriously, I hope you work it out.

Thanks for your dogged effort,I for one really appreciate it.personally,I'd use your file if you didn't fix anything I like it so much, all it really takes is about 30 seconds to edit the news stories that it effects,so cutting that down by 80% is great.

Easy squeezy fix

1. Import your text file into Excel as a comma delimited file. Fix whatever you wish, there will be no "boxes" to deal with.
2. When done export your file as a CSV file.
3. Rename it from the command prompt from .CSV to .TXT

The challenge you are having is because ALL the "txt" files in OOTP are really "csv" files with a TXT file extension. So the logical Q is why the heck aren't ALL the "csv" files labeled as such. Must be a european thang or perhaps it is just there to test the nominal IQ's of modderator maker peoples and customers in general.

Oddly enough the CSV files included in the game really are CSV files.

tried this and it doesn't work. Goes back to way it was when all news stories list just a number for the injury description.

You have inadvertantly gotten your columns messed up. Try the above and fix them up. Then it will work. Maybe start with the original injury file and copy your edits in. You have just gotten it off track.

Here is your posted file fixed using the steps outlined, you will notice it is 1k bigger because of the fix.

Unfortunately, this did not work, the first two ijuries of the season both had numbers instead of descriptions.

There was a bug like that in Beta that had been fixed. Maybe it has arisen.

The original error was on line 2 and has been fixed.

Injury DB should work properly.
Where do I put your file? In the current build nothing seems to arranged the same as it was in the previous builds. For example, there's practically nothing in the data folder, and I can't find where to install any mods. I can't find where the 'stock' injury file is located.

My problem is that I can't find the database. Within OOTP baseball 10 I have six things: license.txt, readme.txt, OOTP 10.app, uninstaller folder, log folder and data folder.

The unistaller folder has two items: uninstaller.app and uninstaller.pkg.

The log folder contains only install log.txt.

OOTP 10.app contains nine items: PkgInfo, OOTP10, info.nib, classes.nib, objects.xib (allof those are Unix Executable Files), two Info.plists, info.plist.strings and OOTP10.icns.

Now, you'd think the data folder would have the database, wouldn't you? Au contraire. It contains six items: background.jpg, loading.png, ootp.png, ootp10_peds_key, a fonts folder (which contains ten .ttf files) and a skins folder. The skins folder contains folders for four skins, each containing a skin.bin and a defaults.cfg file. I'm not seeing a database folder in there anywhere.

This is not a weird Mac thing. I looked in the OOTP 9 folder, and its data folder contains (among other things) the database folder, which contains (among other things) injuries.txt. I know for a fact that the 10.1 and 10.2 versions of OOTP also had a database folder and injuries.txt within the data folder, but for some reason 10.4 doesn't. I never looked at 10.0 or 10.3. I just tried to start the game up, and it won't start. I'm going to be posting this in tech support, in the hopes of solving this problem.

Thanks for trying.

Curtis, my OOTPX stuff is spread over two locations. In C:/program files/Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 10 I have a data folder similar to what you describe (probably identical; I just didn't check every item). In C:/My Documents/Out of the Park Developments I have another OOTP folder called OOTP Baseball 10. That's the one that contains a database folder with injuries.txt and lots of other stuff. The game set these folders up automatically. Is your set-up similar?

It's inside your documents folder... you will find an OOTP 10 folder there, which includes the data\database folder where the injury.txt is located...

Bingo! Found the database folder and the injuries.txt. Unfortunately, this doesn't solve the problem of the game refusing to start, for which I've posted down in Tech Support.

Also, Markus, in Version 9 you put everything in the Applications folder. Why did you decide to spread part of it out into Documents for Version 10? This seems like it would be a step backwards.

Actually version 9 should have worked like OOTP 10 too, because it's they way it makes most sense IMO.
