32-man roster?

It's past Sept. 1 in my '09 MLB league, and the rosters have expanded to 40 players. However, I find it very strange that every AI-controlled team in the league only ever carries as many as 32 players at one time, as if it were a rule. If someone gets injured and goes on the DL or a team feels the need to recall someone from the minors, someone else currently on the roster is invariably optioned back to the minors in order to keep the big league roster set precisely at 32 players, no more, no less. I could understand if this was done by maybe one or two teams for specific financial reasons, but the whole league is doing this. Could this be a bug? Is there a known reason for this? Just weird, unexplained AI behavior?

I've never seen this problem. Have had plenty of AI Teams with 35 - 40 players on the roster after Sep 1st.

Could it maybe have something to do with the roster rules in your league setup?

I believe everything is set up as standard. I haven't altered anything in my MLB league.

In real life Teams won't call up everybody on their 40 Man Roster or wait intill the person team season is over to call up.

When the regular season is over, ALL players on option are recalled (since the minor leagues do not operate during the off-season).

I asked the same question and didn't get an answer.

The AI only calls those up who are rather close to being major league ready (compared to other options). Probably in your case it's just a coincidence that's 32 for every AI team...
